Trey
"These are for you."
She sat at the kitchen bar flipping through a content binder as I tried to hand her two dozen white long stemmed tulips. Instead of acknowledging, she ignored me.
Two days passed since I stayed the night with Rose and Tae had barely said another word after our last conversation.
"Sit them down."
Still barely conceding my presence, she continued looking at the binder.
"Can we talk," I questioned, "Or we gon keep walking through this bitch like strangers?"
"Nothing to talk about. Leave the flowers and go on about your business."
"No," I replied pulling out the barstool next to her, "apparently, there is something you need to say. You still mad about the other night..."
"You fucking right, I'm mad about the other night," she interrupted as she closed the binder shut, "you better be glad I respect you and I'm pregnant. Otherwise, I'd try to kick your ass."
I sighed.
"Maybe it was wrong to stay the night, but I swear, it was not on bullshit. Rose is sick and asked for me, so I went by. Literally, she clung to my chest and fell asleep. I laid there with her, watched the game and ended up falling asleep too. Next thing you know, it's morning."
"Why didn't you just bring her here?" She argued.
"Cause she was at her house with her mother. She was sick, baby. I ain't wanna take her out her comfort zone. Besides, I don't know if what she got is contagious. She doesn't need to be around you or the kids right now."
"Yet, you go over there and sleep up under her and then come back here with us. It's the same difference, nigga."
Again, I took a deep breath.
"I didn't think it was necessary to move my sick child from one house to another to appease you."
Her eyes got big as she wagged her finger in my face.
"You making it real hard not pounce on yo ass."
"I'm saying..."
"You ain't saying shit that I wanna hear," she interrupted, "are you dumb?"
"Tae..."
"Although I fucking hate LA, I moved out here because you told me one of the things you were stressed about was being so far from me and the kids as we try to navigate this relationship again."
"Doll..."
"So I wanted to show you that though I have some reservations about us getting married again, I still want this. I want you. And now I'm here and so is this bitch. And now, you sleeping over while I'm here with your kids at your house."
