Michael’s POV
“She made everything up about liking Ashton so she could surprise Niall” Sophie shrugs softly before quickly covering her mouth. “Shit I wasn’t meant to say that…” She says quickly.
What the hell was that?
I was making my way over to buy myself a brownie since I needed energy from being waken so early. I know I shouldn’t have but I couldn’t help catch the last few sentences Sophie had spoken. By the mention of Niall and Ashton I assumed this was Rebecca. I couldn’t get my head around what I had just heard.
Rebecca liked Ashton? Wait no, she faked liking him? I knew of my best mate’s feelings towards the girl, he would be heartbroken to hear that she was toying with his feelings.
I decided he had the right to know of this and though I wish I didn’t have to and that I shouldn’t go off what I hear but it seemed pretty clear of her intentions.
Once my brownie was paid for and I was sat alone with Sophie on the tour bus, I decided to question her about it. “Sophie…”
“Hmm?” She hummed, her attention still focused on my hand that was filling the two of hers.
“What was it that you were saying to Harry earlier?”
“Oh nothing he was just apologising for being a dick the other day”
“No not that I mean the whole Rebecca thing” The silence and tense that shot through her hands made it obvious that she was not expecting my question.
“It wasn’t what you thought it was” She finally spoke up.
“Seemed pretty clear to me.” This was about my best friend being played on that we were discussing here. I sighed trying to soften my harsh tone.
“She told me that she liked Ashton just before she left and that she had to go before she ended up hurting Niall or even him, but Liam said that she only left so suddenly to surprise Niall and was was going to turn up at his parent’s home. I know about her feelings towards Ashton and she said it was the first thing that came to mind as an excuse, at least it was on her mind? That she has feeling for him?
Listen you mustn’t tell anyone, especially Ashton. If I find out you told him I’m staying in Calum’s room”
“He has a right to know if someone’s using him”
“She’s not using him”
“Using who?” Ashton entered the end of the tour bus casually, a banana held in his left hand, his phone in the other, and his eyes lifting quickly up towards me showing that he is now in the conversation before they returned to his screen.
“Oh no one” Her quick reply made it obvious that she was hiding something and Ashton was going to use this.
“Come on tell me, no secrets between your best buds” He pushed; his banana had vanished leaving the skin, which was thrown in the direction of the bin but missed. As he stood to retrieve his waste Sophie looked at me pleading for a way out of the current situation.
“Don’t worry about it man, so who you been texting all morning? You’re thumbs seem to be gaining a lot of exercise recently.”
“Oh only Rebecca” His face brightened happily but dropped at the sound of Niall’s voice filling the bus, it was clear to understand what was rushing through his mind. My scoff seemed to be louder then I had planned as his eyebrows furrowed.
“It’s her who you were talking about wasn’t it”
Oh shit.
Anger washed over Sophie’s face and we both knew he was going to find out. There wasn’t anything I could do but tell him, yet my foolish side got the better of me as I tried to prove to him it wasn’t.
My attempt in arguing became a stutter giving him the reassurance that he was right.
“What’s she done now?”
“What do you mean, What’s she done now]” Sophie snapped, annoyed at how he could assume her best friend would do anything wrong, when the truth was that she did do something wrong.
“I mean that it’s obvious she’s done something and you’re hiding it so it involves me too” His voice thick with emotion, switching from curiosity to worry. “Who did she use? Me? Oh god…” Realisation clear in his words.
“I can’t keep it from you, and I know I should have told you as soon as I heard, we both should’ve but I was worried of your react-“
“Just tell me!”
“I- um… She told Sophie that she liked you on the day she left and that she had to go before she ended up doing something that would either hurt you or Niall, but then Sophie found out from Liam that she only left so suddenly to surprise Niall at his parent’s home. Sophie asked her about the whole “feelings thing” and she said it was the first thing that came to mind as an excuse. I know it doesn’t sound as though it’s completely fake and that that was actually on her mind but to me it sounded like she used you. I’m sorry…”
By now Sophie had left the room, I could tell that she was angry that I told him after her asking previous minutes before not to and I knew I had some explaining to do but he would have found out anyway. If I don't, I guess she's staying in Calum's room.
“I’m really-“
“Don’t.”
