"Hunk...?"

Slowly lifting his head from his palms, Hunk hesitantly looked over at the almost sickly Lance. He attempted to give a comforting smile, but unfortunately failed as he choked back a small wail. He couldn't stand to stare at his friends current state or bear to break the news about the demise of the Purple Paladin.

A few gurgly coughs came from Lance before he scanned the room with twisted and faded vision. He squinted his eyes as the light in the pod had become to much for his oncoming headache. As he went through the motions, he began to notice the sticking pain above his hip.

He gently placed his hand above the aching spot only to be greeted with the feeling of a thick substance on his teared glove. Rubbing his fingers together, he brought his hand up to the light with a startled grunt. Blood had completely coated his hand as-well as the bottom half of his torso. With a sigh, he released some of the built in tension he had been holding. He fell back into his seat and searched with his non-bloody hand for a presence that didn't seem to be beside him.

He cranked his head to the seat next to him, only to find it empty. Lance shifted in his seat, worry running throughout his body. It only made the wound feel excruciating.

"Hunk, Wh-" He took a sharp breath before pressing his hand to his side once more, "Where's (Y/N)?" He beeseeched.

The room remained silent, the only sound being Lance's labored breathing.

Hunk shook his head in defeat, gazing at the ceiling before meeting Lance's hooded gaze, head on. His eyes held a deep sorrow that caused Lance to stir in his seat. Lance blinked rapidly before opening his mouth once more. "Hunk..." He implored.

He didn't quite know why he was begging or what he was begging. Maybe he was begging for a sliver of hope that Hunk was going to say that (Y/N) was still alive, and that they just so happened to hitch a different ride.

However, Hunk's silence and his glare full of melancholy only caused Lance to chuckle before it became a muffled cry.

"N-no." Lance pushed himself from his seat, only for it to lead him onto the dreary and cold floor.

Any attempt to gain repose on his part only resulted in more blood loss.

Hunk watched Lance struggle, his features contorting into a devasted expression. Seeing his friend self-implode within the pod caused  Hunk to jump from his seat in a rigid fashion. He grabbed Lance by the shoulders and forced him to stop squirming in his grasp. "Lance, you need to calm down. We are going to get back to the ship and get you patched up, okay?"

Lance's eyes met Hunk's whose seemed to be filled with defeat. They began to gloss over with tears as he let his body fall limp into Hunk's chest. He shook his head in disbelief, his heart suddenly ten times more heavier.

Hunk quickly wrapped his arms around the trembling Lance, his heart aching at the sight of him.

"They can't be gone," He cried, banging his fist onto the cold metal, "T-they're too smart-"

"...Lance." Hunk squeezed, trying his best to not allow Lance to give himself false hope.

"They...They sacrificed themselves to save us. To save you," He poked Lance in the chest gently, directly over his heart. "The Galra probably got to (Y/N) by now."

"N-no!" He pushed himself off Hunk with what little strength he had. "How could you say that, Hunk!?"

"Because it's the truth, Lance!" Hunk snapped, grief not only affecting Lance. "(Y/N) had no way of protecting themselves back at the ship! They had no bayard and no way out..."

Lance stared at Hunk in astonishment, hot streams falling down his clammy cheeks. His gaze dropped to the ground, his shoulders trembling. For the first time in a long time, he felt completely and utterly empty.

"I loved them, Hunk." He croaked. "And I never told them that. I wish I had. I was already so in love with them when they saved my life for the very first time, I just didn't know it." He chuckled remorsefully.

"That would explain the whole jealously thing you had between Keith and (Y/N)." Hunk pieced together.

Lance nodded slowly, smiling at his childish antics. "But now?" He staggered, "Now they'll never know how much I truly appreciate them."

-

"You're back!" Coran bellowed. His eyes trailed to the body Hunk held in his grasp. A loud and audible gasp came from him before racing to Hunk's side. "What happened to him!?"

"He was shot and he needs one of those pods immediately." Hunk demanded. Coran nodded vigorously before ordering Hunk to follow him.

Once they've placed Lance's body into the cryo-pod, Hunk sighed shakily. His body was trying it's best to cope with unexpected loss and stress it had been put through. His friend was shot and he had to leave the other behind. You can imagine what kind of stress he was put under.

Soon, rapid footsteps had caused him to turn towards the entrance of the pod room. Soon, the rest of the Paladins emerged, faces of expectancy and relief rested on to their features.

Pidge scanned the room, in hope of searching for a face that she knew she would not see. Her heart still shattered as she knew that she might never see her childhood friend again. And that it was her fault that they were possibly dead.

"Where's (Y/N)?" Keith voiced, speaking up at the elephant in the room.

"Yes, I did notice the lack of the Purple Paladin, but I thought they ran off to Keith." Coran inquired.

Hunk's gaze fell onto Pidge, "You didn't tell them?"

"I thought," Pidge staggered, "Hoped, that I wouldn't have to."

Shiro took a step towards Pidge, a vexed look dancing across his face. "You hoped you wouldn't have to tell us what?"

Silence fell between the group, Hunk and Pidge sharing the same hurt expression.

"T-that (Y/N) had to stay behind to send out the pod Hunk and Lance came here with," Pidge began.

Hunk continued, "And that they had nothing to protect themselves with."

"Wait, what!?" Keith bellowed, "You just let them-"

"I didn't let them do anything! Their bayard was destroyed and they locked Lance and I in the pod before I can even step a foot outside of it!" Hunk objected.

"Well," Allura spoke up, "The Galra always have been extremely protective of their secrets in their database. I'm not sure if they would spare one Paladin, let alone the three of you."

"That does seem quite unlikely Princess." Coran added, a saddened look plastered onto his face.

"...But, that does give us the option that they took (Y/N) as prisoner." Allura proclaimed, a peak of hope sounding alive in her voice.

"No way, Princess. They definitely wanted blood." Hunk added. "After the way they shot Lance? They weren't there to take prisoners. They were there to take lives."

A/n: hey guys! I'm back! With a kind of sad chapter. But I guess now you're at the point in the story where you and Pidge already know each other. And you know that you aren't really dead. We're just taking a look into the crews reactions and emotions upon hearing of your "death." Especially our boy lance, who seems to be in the utmost pain because he couldn't say goodbye to the one he adored.
