As I woke up to reality, and Katie intertwining her fingers with my own, I realized that my family hadn't seen her since that night, a year ago. I worked up the nerve to ask her. "Katie, you haven't seen my family in a while. I think they'd like to re-acquaint themselves with you and if our relationship becomes..." I trailed off.

     She nodded, "I'd like that."

     "Alright, tonight maybe?" I asked.

     "Sounds good."

"I'll pick you up at six and you can eat dinner with my family, maybe stay the night?" I questioned.

"As long as it's not an imposition," she shyly agreed.

"It's never an imposition, never has been," I winked. "I better tell Mom and Dad, and I guess I'll see you later." With that, he left.

I'd spent the majority of the afternoon preparing for later tonight, and stressing over it. I loved Shawn's family, but it had been a while since I'd imposed on their generosity. Worst case scenarios overwhelmed my thoughts. What if they thought bitterly of me? The girl who broke Shawn's heart?

I wasn't scared. No, that was the truth. I was terrified.

As I walked into the living room where my family was situated, I cleared my throat. "I have a bit of an announcement to make..." My eyes nervously scanned their expressions.

"Just spit it out, Shawn," Aaliyah rolled her eyes.

"You remember Katie Mitchell?" They nodded, intrigued. "Well, I saw her the other day, and she, well, rescued me from some obsessive fans who were surrounding my car at the time. We spent some time together and straightened out some misunderstandings. She's my girlfriend again..." My parents eyes widened. "I thought it would be best if you reacquainted yourselves with her, so I invited her for dinner tonight. Is that okay?" I asked.

"I have no problems with it," my mom responded, looking at my dad, "But what do you have in mind for dinner?"

I chuckled, "Mom, you know I'm no cook. I trust that you'll make the finest meal I've ever tasted. As usual," I added.

"Mhm. I think we've raised our son to be to gentlemanly for his own good," she smirked, kissing my cheek before she headed for the kitchen.

Relief flooded through me. Everything would be alright.
