Chapter 38- The Zoo

Katie Mitchell *POV*

     Imagine my surprise when the Jeep pulled into the parking lot for a zoo. I felt giddy with excitement; childish, I know, but I loved animals. My childhood dream had been to become a veterinarian, that is, until I'd grown closer with Shawn. Those little things that he remembered meant a lot to me.

     He laughed as I dragged him to see each animal. "You're like a little kid on Christmas morning," he teased.

     I punched him playfully.

     Three hours. Three hours with Shawn tagging along as we viewed lions and lionesses, tigers, giraffes, zebras, snakes, pandas, and every animal to ever walk the face of the earth. After three hours, my energy was depleting quickly. When Shawn suggested we grab something to eat, I happily agreed.

     "What are you hungry for?" He asked.

     I paused to consider my options. "Do you like Chinese?"

     "Like it? It's delicious."

Shawn Mendes *POV*

     I sneaked glances at Katie as I drove. She had ducked her head bashfully as she asked for Chinese. I knew she felt insecure sometimes, but to me, there was nothing to be insecure about. To me, she was as perfect as perfect could be.

     She was soft-spoken; cautious. When she spoke her opinion, it was with consideration and caution. She didn't speak her mind without a little probing, but when she did, she was honest. Her touch left me breathless, gentle and probing.

     She'd hide behind the long strands of her hair when she was embarrassed. She'd stare outside the window when she was lonely, avoiding my gaze. She'd try to hide the tears when she cried. She'd keep herself from admitting that she needed someone, anyone, to keep her company when she was lonely, wipe her tears away when she cried, and simply, love her.

     That last requirement was already taken care of...
