24. Dreams Are Made & Broken

"Well, that's great!" Lori beamed at her sister in-law.

"Yeah... it really was honestly. It just felt so normal and comfortable," Stevie stated as she blushed slightly. "He just made me feel so good about myself and my mood, everything."

"That's good, Stevie. Maybe you guys could work out later. It seems like a good connection," Sharon added.

Lori rose her brows with a smile, giving Stevie a hint. They all believed it was a start to a wonderful relationship.

Later on---at late night, when Lorraine had gone, Lindsey was getting ready for bed. He was so upset because, he got involved in what felt like a shotgun wedding and he didn't want to be part of it. He only loved one woman and he couldn't understand why his words weren't coming out at dinner.

Lindsey's bedroom door opened and he turned abruptly to see who would come in so noisily.

"You're marrying her?" William stood in front of his dad. He didn't yell loud, but he was upset.

"I--" Lindsey had no idea that his son was listening to the conversation. He did sense someone listening, though he didn't know who it was.

"You said nothing was going on with you two... you said you didn't know what grandma was talking about when she said, you looked beautiful," he was beyond angry because he didn't really care for Lorraine. "Mom just died a few days ago and now you're gonna marry someone else?"

"William, cool it, alright?" Lindsey had no choice but to raise his voice a little. "I didn't sign up for this myself, okay. The day before she died, she asked Lorraine and I to get married. I didn't think we'd have to but..." he shook his head. He was frustrated, himself and he didn't want to talk about it until he had an alternative.

"Are you gonna get rid of Stevie?" William simmered down because the thought of no Stevie, just saddened him.

"No kiddo, I would never get rid of her," he admitted in full truth. He knew that he could never get rid of Stevie, nor did he want to.

The next couple of days flew by nicely. Or as nice as they could get. Lindsey was more than relieved that his in-laws were finally gone. He had never cared for Kristen's parents and he was always okay with not going to visit. His work was a good excuse as to why he couldn't make it out to visit. Her parents knew he was on a tight schedule and, or touring so it made it easier to believe. Therefore, by his in-laws leaving them---Lindsey felt he was able to breathe again.

But now the only thing on his mind was Stevie and Lorraine. He was so in love with Stevie and he wanted to tell her what was going on, but he also didn't want to hurt her. He couldn't believe that he couldn't even form words to tell his in-laws otherwise. He felt even worse since William happened to hear that conversation. He hated that he did because, he was trying to pry himself from the situation. He was really only thinking; had Stevie not have come along---he probably would be marrying Lorraine happily. But that was not the case and he just wanted to be with Stevie. He could see even William didn't care for Lorraine as much as he did Stevie and the only way Stella was comfortable, was when she was Stevie.

Lindsey had made his way over to Stevie's for the first time in the last couple days. They would talk here and there, but it didn't have to be solid. That was one thing he loved---she wasn't clingy. In this time he was most happy about that because, he was trying to sort his whole issue out.

Stevie came out once she had seen the Buckinghams enter her courtyard. She smiled lightly because she did miss Lindsey. She knew their love had to be hidden in front of the kids, but she was still excited to even be with Lindsey.
