Nova didn't have alot of things to move in, just a few outfits and other little things. She quickly organised her stuff and looked out the large window in her living room that overlooked the city. It was a beautiful view. This reminded her of looking out the window of Loki's bedroom. She missed him so much. He was the only reason she would go back. Sure, Thor was also her best friend, but he didn't didn't have any similar interests with her. Loki had always been there for her. She wondered how they are doing. Thinking about them just made her sad. That's all she felt. Sadness. She couldn't let the sadness get to her though. She was doing so well on Earth. She couldn't jeopardize that. She sighed and walked away from the window. She sat down on the couch and decided she would begin learning about driving. You sat and drove on the right side of the road. That was easy to remember but everything else was not. A red octagonal sign meant stop, a yellow triangle meant to yield. A child chasing a ball on a yellow diamond meant children at play. It didn't seem hard, but she wasn't from around here. She never drove before and she knew nothing about anything that had to do with a vehicle. She knew alot about Earth and how to fit in but driving would be a real challenge.
After hours of trying to memorize how cars work and road signs her brain finally hurt. She was getting kind of hungry too. She ordered a pizza. She had never had pizza before and it seemed to be a popular Midgardian food, so she decided to give it a try. She just sat around until it came and when it did she paid she delivery lady and brought it to the kitchen. She wasn't exactly sure how to eat it. It was cut into triangles so she picked one up and ate it that way. "Odin's beard that's good," she thought to herself. She finished that triangle and picked up another and repeated until the box was empty.
By now it was beginning to get dark. Nova was tired and she just wanted to go to bed, so that's what she did. She threw out the pizza box and put her plate into the sink. The apartment still blew her way. All of her hardwork didn't go to waste. She made her way to her bedroom and got ready for bed. She read a few chapters of a book that she picked up and drifted off to sleep.
A few weeks had gone by, she had been on Earth for a month and a half. She was finally getting used to her new life. In fact, she even began to forget about her powers and Asgard. It started to become a memory at the back of her head. She had booked her driver's test and her passport photo and application dates. She was finally happy. She had nothing to worry about. She was living an awesome life, but she needed some friends. Earth would be miserable if she had to live there alone with nobody to talk to. That's what she would spend her day doing tomorrow. Meeting new people shouldn't be too hard, right?
Nova rose with the sun and got ready to meet some new Midgardians. Wait, she couldn't call them that anymore. She got ready to meet new people. People. People. People. She didn't know how long it would take her to finally get used to that. There's alot of things she still needed to get used to. But that wasn't important, making new friends was. She braided her hair and pulled on some leggings and put on a pink shirt and a grey pullover. She looked presentable but not like she was trying too hard. She was ready.
She walked down the street to the coffee shop that she went to pretty frequently. When she walked in, she saw a new barista behind the counter. She was taller than Nova, sorry, Vanessa. She seemed really nice. She had a bright smile plastered on her face and her long red hair fell just past her shoulders. Her pale skin glowed and her blue eyes shone. Nova approached her and kindly ordered her drink. A caramel macchiato, hot.
"Thanks again, by the way, you're really pretty!"
"Thank you! You are too. Have a great day!"
"What time does your shift end? Want to grab a drink?"
"Oh sure, here's my number, I'll text you?"
"Sure, see you later! Oh- I never caught your name, I'm Vanessa."
"hehe, I'm Katrina. See you later Vanessa."
"See you Katrina."
She got her macchiato and waved to Katrina. Maybe making friends wouldn't be too hard. If she kept her head held high and her smile on, she hopefully should have new friends in no time. She sat down at a large table where a few others were a seated and pulled out her laptop. She smiled at the girl sitting a few seats away and she smiled back. Nova began to look on some job websites, she needed a job so she could make some real money. There were a few options that she thought she would like. There was an opening at the grocery store as a cashier, she was always good at math. There was also a job opening at the mall in the food court at a place called Kentucky Fried Chicken. It was starting as a dishwasher but it made decent money. She began composing another resume. She didn't have any previous work experience on Earth though. Back on Asgard she had a part time job working in a farmer's market. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday she would work there from 10:00am-5:00pm cleaning and selling the produce. She didn't know if she could list it but she decided to anyway.
She worked on the resume for about an hour and decided she had been there long enough. She rose from her chair and began to pack her things. When she closed her laptop there was a napkin with some numbers written on it. She looked around and she saw a girl smile and wave at her. Nova realized it was her phone number. It was the girl who was sitting a few seats down from Nova. Nova added the number to her phone and made her contact name as "Claire." That was the name that was scribbled on the napkin just above the numbers. That's 2 friends now. She wasn't doing too bad. She smiled to herself, finished packing up her belongings and walked out of the cafe.
She walked down the street, it was a bright and sunny afternoon, not a cloud in sight. It wasn't too hot but it wasn't too cold. Her backpack bounced up and down as she walked down the street. She pulled out her phone and she had a text from Katrina. She got off at 6 so she wanted to meet Nova at 8 around the corner from the cafe to get some food at a Chinese buffet. Nova had never had Chinese food before so she was excited. She also decided to text Claire. Claire and Katrina knew eachother already, Katrina and her met a few weeks ago and were friends ever since. Nova texted Katrina and asked if Claire would be welcome to come. Katrina then made a group chat with the three of them and Claire was free and would meet them there at 8. All she needed were a few good friends to fit in and be happy.
She arrived at her apartment and went brought her backpack to her room and unpacked it. She had to decide what she wanted to wear. "I don't want to look like I'm trying too hard that'll scare them away," she thought to herself. She was pretty used to Earth by now and understood what to do and when, it wasn't that much different than Asgard, just a few small things. She decided on some ripped jeans and a bright orange sweater. She was excited but also somewhat nervous. The only friends she ever had were Thor and Loki and some other people who lived next door, but they weren't really friends. Thor and Loki were really the only friends she ever had. She wasn't good at carrying a conversation and she wasn't very sociable. She really had to change who she was. Thor and Loki understood her. Especially Loki. He was misunderstood too and didn't talk to many people. Sometimes they just sat in his room in silence. They were the kind of friends who didn't have to talk to communicate. Wow, she really missed Loki. Like alot. She shook her head to rid herself of her thoughts. She couldn't be thinking about them. Her new friends were more important than those two. Kind of...
A few hours later she ready to leave. She locked her door and walked down the stairs. She walked down the street and found the place with no problem. Claire was already there when Nova opened the door. She sat down at the table and just then, Katrina walked in. The three of them got drinks and talked about their lives. Nova talked about her Asgard life but only the things that she could do on Earth, so it seemed normal. They were having a great time and the food was really good. She was loving Earth in this moment. The three laughed and bonded all night until the place closed. They all decided to go back to Nova's place because she lived the closest. They got there and watched movies, did facemasks and ate snacks all night. This was the most fun Nova had ever had. These were true friends. And she was truly Midgardian.
