She was different to any student he had ever come across. She was quiet, read books, didn't party, but behind the silence was a sadness that radiated from her. It was as if he couldn't help himself, he wanted to be what she needed. The only problem...
Shawn Mendes I loved seeing Faye getting along with my family. I knew things could go sour later when they wanted to talk about every thing but for the moment I was enjoying the feeling of being happy. We sat and the ladies talked whilst I ate my food in silence. "Oh my god" my mom said and I snapped my head up, but she was focused on Faye. More like Faye's hand. Faye tried to hide it but mom shook her head. "Oh no ive seen it now" she laughed and Faye's cheeks turned red as she held out her hand for Mom and Aaliyah to see. "You're getting married?!" Aaliyah asked raising her voice. "No!" Me and Faye said in unison. "Not yet. But it's a promise to her that I'll love her always and one day yes I hope to get married to her" I explained holding Faye's hand in my own. "Damn Shawn you're a big softie." Aaliyah laughed and I rolled my eyes. "You'll understand one day" I told her. Mom started to clean up the table as she always did and Faye rose to her feet. "Sweetheart don't worry you're the guest here" she laughed. "No no I mean I don't know where anything goes but I can try and help" Faye said collecting up little bits from the table as Mom told her where each thing went. "You're very polite, and a nice girl. How did Shawn manage to get you?" Mom asked and I saw Faye look to me with a slight panic in my eyes. "She was my best student" I said and at that moment Dad walked into the kitchen.
"Shawn?" Dad said and I turned round. "Well this is a surprise. Didn't think we'd be seeing you" "I know. And we can talk about all that but I needed you all to meet Faye" I said and Faye waved at my dad "Lovely to meet you" he said shaking Faye's hand. He turned her hand over and examined the ring I had given her. "Marriage?" I shook my head. "Why don't we just all sit and talk about everything?" I asked and everyone nodded their head.
We all sat down Mom and Dad on a sofa, Aaliyah on a chair and me and Faye on a separate sofa. "So I'll start from the beginning. When I left here because of the accusations of me being a fraud of money I did a quick teaching course and went to teach at Faye's high school. And I've been teaching there for the past year. Me and Faye started seeing each other" "Whilst you were her teacher? Shawn you know that's illegal" mom said and I nodded. "I know and we tried to date other people and all that to stay away from each other but then she turned eighteen and it wasn't illegal anymore, plus it was the holidays, plus I quit the job so we could be together" I said smiling at Faye who also had a smile on her face.
"We went to Paris together and when we came back I was arrested. Apparently I was still wanted for fraud. So I was in prison for a week and a bit. However this little ray of stubbornness went to America by herself and contacted my old professor and got him to fly to the U.K. and I was released as he said the work I 'stole' was mine in the first place because i added to it. So all charges were dropped and it's not on my record" I explained and everyone just sat quietly. "Well that's not a lot to take in" Aaliyah laughed. "I think we owe you a big thank you" Dad aimed at Faye who nodded. "I'd do anything to help him" she said making everyone smile. "I have questions" Mom asked and we both nodded. "Has Shawn ever hurt you?" Faye looked to the ceiling. I knew she didn't want to tell the truth. "Yes I have. I screamed at her best friend and ruined her birthday. And I regret this hugely but I cheated on her" I sighed and mom rolled her eyes. "I thought I taught you better" Dad said. "I don't hold him to any of it now. I'm not mad anymore. I love him" Faye said twiddling her ring in her fingers. "Then he's a damn lucky boy" Mom said and I pulled Faye into my side. "I really am. And I'm sorry it's been this long. I just got so caught up in everything. I shouldn't of just gone off radar" I said and both my parents nodded.
"Now that that's sorted Faye, what are your plans for the future then?" Mom asked "Well I'm hoping on going to university to do law but I don't know where I want to go or if I want to take a gap year" Faye explained and my parents seemed impressed. "Shawn? What are you planning on doing now?" "Honestly I have no idea. I mean it's even in my options to sell the house in the U.K. and move back here permanently" I said and I could feel Faye tense up beside me. "What would you do if Shawn moved here?" Aaliyah asked Faye and again her body went tense. "Well I've not really thought about it. Depends how serious we're going to get. Because if we were serious then yeah I would think about moving here for university" Faye said and I took her hand in mine tightly. "Well already I can say that you've got my approval" Mum said and Dad nodded. "How long are you guys staying?" "Three days. I'm going to show Faye round the city but we'll see you before we leave" I said and they nodded just as Faye's phone rang.
"Sorry one sec" she stepped away into the kitchen and we all just sat in silence for a while until Faye voice rang out. "Are you having a laugh? I swear you better be joking with me. How can I be happy when it's so soon. Ok bye" we all heard her say before she sighed and walked back in with an obvious fake smile on her face. "What's wrong?" I asked. "Mum and Mark they're moving the wedding up so it's at the end of summer." Faye said and Mum raised her eyebrow "Shouldnt you be happy?" "It's a long story" Faye smiled. "Well how about this. Us girls will go out in the morning and Shawn and dad can spend time together. Then you could take Faye to the rink in the afternoon?" Mum suggested and me everyone agreed.
I had to admit to myself I was nervous about spending a lot of time with dad. I didn't want it to be awkward. But I could tell Faye was excited to spend some time with girls and doing girly things. And id love her to see the rink.
We drove back to mine and Faye went upstairs and came back down dressed in a silk night gown. "I'll move here with you if you're going to move here" She said leaning in the doorway to my sitting room. "I don't want to force you" "You're not. I want to be with you" she said and I took her into my arms. "Could you imagine yourself studying here and living here with me?" I asked and her hazel eyes looked up at me. "Of course I can. If you'll let me live here" "I wouldn't have it any other way"
