It all seemed so unreal.
Time itself was distorted.
Alice couldn't even say the first day was the worst. They all felt the same, as if an anchor had been splayed on her chest, keeping her from moving too fast.
It could have been days, weeks or years, the pain was the same. The only time clue she had was her belly slowly growing under her shirt, and her pants becoming too tight.
The young girl took a few deep breaths. How, when was the pain going to stop ?
Alice wasn't crying when she wished she was. It only happened during weird, awkward moments. When she wasn't thinking anymore, her body seemed to remind her how tortured her spirit was. It was all real, impossible to deny.
Most of the time, anxiety took over her body, making it shake from head to toes. No one had warned her before. Nobody had told her how it physically hurt, as if someone was stabbing her guts.
It was just how it truly felt. To be heart broken.
She couldn't eat. She couldn't study either. Alice just stayed on the couch, crying and staring blankly into space. Even when she felt cold, she wouldn't move a finger to grab a blanket.
Eventually, she received a letter from the Dean. If there was something else than herself she'd been neglecting these last weeks, it was university.
And Alice started thinking rationally. Studying would probably be the only way to get back on track.
So she found herself walking through these corridors again, heart pounding in her chest at the idea Loki's office wasn't far.
As she entered the auditorium for her philosophy class, Alice noticed a familiar pair of eyes staring at her.
Jane.
The young girl quickly sat next to her friend who was already shooting weird glances at her.
"Damn Alice, your... weight."
A sudden blush burnt Alice's cheeks and she crossed her arms against her chest. She had completely forgotten about her belly.
"I just took a few pounds."
"Are you kidding ? You are the skinniest person in this room."
A frown appeared on Alice's forehead and she absently rubbed the sides of her stomach.
Indeed, she was.
When class finally ended, the two girls made their way out. Alice didn't know what to think, or say to her friend. She wasn't even able to tell her about Leo. Jane's feminist side would certainly push her to focus on the agression more than on Alice's breakup. At the moment, the young girl just needed comfort and affection.
"What's wrong ?"
Alice shrugged, mixed emotions painted on her face. Jane stopped in the middle of the path leading to the residencies,
"Hey..."
"We broke up. He broke up." Alice suddenly said, facing her friend.
"Damn it Laufeys..."
