Imagine being engaged and moving in with Charlie Weasley. Now all that's left is informing his mother- the one Weasley whose been waiting years for her son to settle down for years (Part 3 of 4).
Having heaved boxes upon boxes, and shrunken pieces of furniture through the floo connection to the Burrow, Molly Weasley and Ginny Potter had then helped you floo over all your belongings to the newly dubbed Dragon Cottage. The cottage in question was recently purchased in a purely magical community nearby Ottery St. Catchpole, with acres of rolling hills in every direction to give you some privacy thanks to Drago's presence.
Boxes levitating behind the three of you, you then lead Molly and Ginny through your home and towards the kitchen. But to get there, you must pass through Drago's room and you've forgotten to warn the ladies that Drago was in a bit of a mood. The moment the door swings open, your dragon shrieks furiously and his wings flare out at his sides. This startles the two other witches so much that their spells immediately fail and your belongings crash to the floor. You flinch, thankful for the cushioning charms you had placed over every box you had packed.
"Hey!" You bark, glaring at Drago. "Enough of that now. You know Molly and Ginny, you dolt." Drago immediately calms, trilling in apology and blowing smoke at each witch. "Yeah, yeah. You're forgiven for today. I know how much port-keying bothers you." His wings tuck back and he settles back down on his perch to keep guard.
"Come on." You then gesture for Molly and Ginny to follow you, you letting them levitate their boxes once more. "Sorry about Drago. Port-keying makes him cranky and he hasn't properly hidden his hoard yet."
"Aren't you glad you don't have port-key back and forth with him anymore?" Ginny chuckles and then shakes her head in bemusement. "I can't believe how big he's gotten."
"Right? I'm so happy he's hit his last growth spurt. He's big enough now so that when I visit my family I can just leave Drago in Fred and George's care. I don't have to drag him along anymore."
The three of you end up in the kitchen, this being the one room you wanted Molly to help you put together. After explaining to the Weasley matriarch why it was your favorite room in any house (you and your family always congregated in the kitchen to eat and gossip), the motherly witch couldn't deny you a helping hand in putting the room together.
"I can't believe you actually moved here," Ginny muses as she finds a place for your dishware in the kitchen cabinets and starts stacking the plates. "Charlie must be so thrilled."
With your back towards Ginny and Molly, you can't help but grin. "He's thrilled all right."
Then Molly, who'd been finding the perfect place for your pots and pans, turns around while smoothing down her witch's robes. "Are you sure, dear? I don't want your family to blame Charlie for you moving so far away from them."
"It's all good, Molly," you assure her. "My family was ecstatic when I spoke to them of the move. All my siblings are married and have their own little family to tend to, and my parents are going to travel the world. They were worried about me being alone, but since Charlie's come into the picture they couldn't be more relieved. They adore your son," you laugh.
"They adore him, we adore you," Ginny smirks. "Now all that's left is for Charlie to make a honest woman out of you." When you meet Ginny's gaze after turning around, you can't help but laugh at her waggling eyebrows.
"Actually," you drawl, butterflies erupting in your stomach. This was the perfect opportunity. "I have something to tell you."
Molly's staring at you expectantly and it doesn't take long for Ginny's eyes to widen. "No," she gasps in surprise.
"Yeah." Beaming, you pull free a silver chain from the inside of your shirt. Hanging at the bottom is a classic diamond engagement ring with smaller diamonds running all around the band as well. Molly and Ginny both gasp at the sight. And as your taking the ring off the chain to slip onto a very specific finger, you tell them, "You two are the first to know. Not even my family knows, but we suspect that at least my father figured it out."
"Y/N!" Ginny laughs, eyes wet with tears as she rushes towards you and pulls you into a hug. "You and Charlie are married?!"
"What?! No!" You quickly tell her, glancing at Molly who's expression is torn between anger and happiness. "I would never deprive Molly of seeing her son standing at the front of an aisle, nor would I deprive my father of walking me down an aisle. We're just engaged."
Molly exhales loudly, tears falling as she finally beams. She too rushes at you, pushing her laughing daughter out of the way to bring you into a hug of her own. "Oh, my sweet girl. Really? You and Charlie?"
"Yeah, Molly. We're engaged." Molly gushes happily and it's your turn to laugh. "It's been a couple of months, actually. We were just waiting for the right time to tell you."
"Why would there need to be a right time?"
"Well," you drawl again and Ginny gasps.
"You're pregnant!"
"Oh hell no." Ginny cackles at your immediate denial and then after patting Molly softly on the back, you disentangle yourself from her. "It's just- well.. the engagement was only the first part to Molly's surprise."
"First part?" Molly asks, brow furrowing. "There's more?"
The chimes that indicate someone coming through the floo resonate through the house. Ginny and Molly glance around as you huff a small laugh. "That should be part two of the big secret."
Just before the Weasley women can ask what's going on, there's a shout of surprise from the other room as Drago roars. The roar itself isn't as terrifying as it was earlier, but the women still rush towards the other room. Lying in the middle of the floor, with boxes scattered all around him as Drago happily nestles down as best as he can on his chest, is none other than Charlie.
"I missed you, you little terror," Charlie exclaims as Drago's head tucks itself into the crook where Charlie's neck and shoulder meet.
After a few moments of no one moving, Molly finally snaps out of her stupor. "Charlie! What are you doing here? Why aren't you at work?"
"Aw, Mum," Charlie laughs as he pushes Drago off of him in order to stand on his own two feet. "Do you really think I'd be working when I'm moving into my new home?"
Molly's eyes widen as she splutters in reply.
"Surprise!" You shout, walking over to Charlie and wrapping an arm around his waist as he tucks you into his side before she can make a full sentence. "Charlie's home."
"Y-You're home?"
"Yeah, Mum. For good." Molly erupts into even more tears, you stepping aside as she rushes to squeeze the life out of her son in a motherly hug. Ginny can only beam at you and her brother. "With as many visits as Y/N has made with Drago as her companion, the Ministry has decided to adopt the 'Guard Dragon' program here. They wanted an experienced Dragonologist and I came with many recommendation letters, so here I am."
"But you love your dragons," Ginny says.
"And I'll still have my dragons," he tells her. "They'll just be a lot smaller compared to what I'm used to dealing with, but it's time I come home, Gin."
She glances between you and her brother. "Don't get me wrong, I'm really happy for you guys," she says. "But are you sure this is what you want and not what you think is expected of you?"
Though Ginny is only giving her honest opinion, you can't help but to feel a bit of a sting at her words. Charlie notices your subtle grimace and releases his mother to go back to tucking you into his side. With his arm around your shoulders and his chin settled atop your head, he says, "This is most definitely what I want. When I was in America visiting Y/N, most of the time we'd end up crowded into a kitchen with her family. Being in that environment with her just made me realize what was missing in my life- you guys. So since Y/N can work from anywhere in the world, I knew I wanted her with me when I decided to come back home."
After a moment of hesitance, Ginny closes the distance between herself and you. She wraps you up in a careful hug, mumbling a quick apology which you brush off with a smile, and then hugs her brother. "It's good to have you home. And you," she then nudges you, "welcome to the family."
