"Millet can I ask you a favor?"

Biglang pumihit paharap kay Jeremy ang tinawag niya sa frontdesk sa maluwang na lobby ng hotel mula sa pagkakatitig nito sa computer na nasa kaliwang gilid. He knew the woman because of so many times he checked in this hotel in the past. She was the floor manager. "Jeh, kumusta na? Ano'ng kailangan mo? Bukas pa ang check out ninyo, 'di ba?"

He smiled. "Yep, bukas pa. But I need to ask you a favor." Naramdaman niya nang tumabi sa kanya si Jerry na hindi niya alam na sumunod pala nang bumaba siya. His brother was only three years younger than him. And Jasmine was only twenty five. Kaedad ni Althea.

Lumapit si Millet sa kanila at ngumiti rin kay Jerry. "Ang ganda ng concert kagabi, I was there."

"Good," sabi niya agad. "So, did you see the woman who backed me up singing Beautiful One dahil may sakit si Jasmine?"

Nag-isip ang babae.

"Althea Sanches is her name," paalala niya rito. "At dito siya sa hotel na ito naka-check-in, I guess." That was how far he gathered from the little conversation he had with Althea last night.

Tiningnan siya ni Millet. Nakakunot ang noo nito na parang nagtataka. "You need anything from her?"

Tumango siya. "Kasama ko siya kagabi and we were so engrossed in talking that when we part ways, hindi ko nahingi ang phone number niya. I'm wondering kung anong room siya dito and if you have her phone number on the record?"

The woman looked at him with suspicion.

He sighed. He was partly lying inside his heart. Mas mabuti pa sa kanya si Althea. Mas pinili nitong magsabi ng totoo kagabi kaysa magsinungaling sa kanya para lang matuwa siya. "Okay, I'm lying," sabi niya agad pambawi.

Nanlaki ang mga mata ni Millet. She knew that lying was a big thing to him. He wouldn't lie for the world. He made a mental calculation on his mind to pray for forgiveness later on.

"The parting wasn't good at iniwan niya ako. I never had a chance to get her number."

Jerry took a deep breath beside him.

Si Millet ay parang hindi makapaniwala sa mga sinabi niya. "Hinahanap mo ang babaing ito?"

He didn't know where he would turn for the blame but it was only himself. "I am being righteous last night and instead of telling her rightfully what she had to do, I totally rebuked her. And I-"

Iniharang ni Jerry ang kamay sa pagitan nila ni Millet sa ibabaw ng counter. "Okay, tama na yang pangungumpisal mo. Sa Diyos ka na humingi ng tawad." Tiningnan nito si Millet. "Can you give us the number or not? Because if you can't, then we have to accept that and go."

Lumunok ng ilang ulit si Millet at tumingin sa paligid bago tiningala si Jeremy. "Okay, I will try to look but only if you promised me that you will not mention me to her. And of course this is the first and only time that I will do this-"

"I'll pray for you, for us," agad na sabi niya dito. Conviction was in his heart. This wasn't the right thing to do. Pati si Millet ay ginagawan niya ng kasalanan sa kumpanyang pinagtatrabahuan nito at sa Diyos. He needed a long time asking God for forgiveness later.
