Chapter 35

"So, how did it go?" Robert asked through a mouthful of bacon.

"So fun," Mark replied.

"What did you all do?" Phil questioned.

"Well, we had a pillow fight. I don't know how long it went for but I was tired as FUCK and then we settled down and practiced." Ethan said.

"So what song did you decide to do for the talent quest?" Daniel asked. He took a sneaky glance at Joey and Joey smiled nodding.

"Say you won't let go."

"OH MY GOD, I LOVE THAT SONG!" Joey exclaimed.

Daniel rolled his eyes and flicked Joey on the ear with his finger. Joey clamped his hand to it and flicked Daniel's.

"That's a perfect song for you two." Dan smiled. He glanced at Phil and Phil smiled at him.

"I was going to ask... Where do you guys come from? I'm from Maine." Ethan asked. He wanted to know because he might have a chance to hang out with someone when camp was done. He was really hoping that Mark lived close by so Ethan could see him.

"Well, me and Phil come from England." Dan answered.

"Phil and I." Phil teased.

"Shut up." Dan laughed.

"You come from another country!" Ethan exclaimed. Dan and Phil were really fun to be around. He'd seen them around camp through the last few years but never really talked to anyone. He heard their accents, just never thought that they'd come to America every year.

"Well, our parents met five years ago and they planned for us all to come to America every year and we get a whole bunch of time off school which is epic. Anyway, our parents drop us to camp for the first part of the holiday so they can have some fun and then for the next week we do what we want." Dan explained.

"I noticed your accents. They're so strong that I would highly doubt that you were from here! I'm from Boston by the way. I don't come here every year because of how bad our financial situation is but my step-dad Bob promised I could come this year. I met Daniel a couple years back and we kept in touch ever since." Joey smiled.

Daniel booped him on the nose and Joey giggled.

"I'm from Boston. Nothing interesting there except I get to see Joey every now and again." Daniel shrugged.

"Disney World is." Mark pointed out.

"True." Daniel nodded. "It is pretty fun."

"I'm from Canada." Robert put in.

"It's freezing there." Joey whimpered hugging Daniel. 

"Is it as cold as England?" Phil challenged.

"Maybe it is." Robert replied.

"Ohio," Mark stated. "I'm from Ohio."

The group continued to eat. Ethan stared at his plate. He might see Mark again next year but that was unlikely, considering that Ethan had never seen the Asian boy at camp before. He wanted nothing more than to run away with mark. He didn't want to stay with his mom because she is abusive, Mark is loving and caring and kind and talented. The list went on for Ethan. 

When everyone seemed to be done, Brian finally stood up and waited for attention. When everyone was silent, he started to speak.

"You're in for a surprise, Mark," Phil said. Ethan nodded, he knew what was coming and he hated it the first time so he never went again. With Mark, it would be better.

"We're going to the beach for a camping trip!" Brian announced.

Most of the kids in the cafeteria cheered.

"It will be for one night. We have food and water give-outs for when we get there. You will all be in pairs and maybe, if necessary, threes for those people with an extra friend. You'll need to learn to pitch a tent, which is set up down by the forest. I'm just saying if you want to be sleeping in the rain, then go and do whatever but if you don't go down and we'll teach. We have a few hours until we leave but for now, we have activities set up for all of you."

Amanda stood up from behind Brian who moved out of the way. "We are also holding talent quest!" She announced.

The alliance cheered. Ethan heard some other people cheer. "You and me Amy!" Kathryn yelled.

"SO, get ready for that. Some of you, I'm pointing at you guys Alliance, have a lot of talent so be prepared, we're taking in anyone who wants to. Surely some of you know a song off by heart and for those people come on down." Amanda said. She sat back down.

Ethan saw Mark staring at his plate, an awkward look planted on his face.

"We both know she won't try again." He reassured.

Mark nodded, his eyes lighting back up.

"I should have said this before, but we are all going to be spread out. Some of us will be monitoring anything that goes on, so don't try anything." Brian warned.

"Like they would care." Ethan heard Tyler mutter from his table. He caught Ethan stared and glared at him.

"Alright, meet back here at two for a quick rundown of what's happening. ANyone who isn't comfortable with going, speak with me. Dismissed."
