As soon as we started cooking, I could already tell by the expressions on Carol's face she was determined to 'win' or want Luke to like her Shepherd's pie more than my Roast Lamb. As she got the ingredients and started preparing her dish, she smirked, 'You may aswell give up now, Alice. You can never beat the world's best chef.' I kindly smiled back at her, 'I don't think of this as a competition, Carol. I just want to prepare food for Luke as a thank you.' 'Whatever!' She rolled her eyes at me and continued her work. Hours went by and our food was finally ready. I must say, hers smelt gorgeous and the presentation was breath-taking. Then I looked at mine- hmm.. I think I've definitely lost. I'm not good when it comes to presentation, I'm not very arty. She glanced at my food and a smirk grew on her face. 'Face it, Alice. You've lost.' I frowned at my work and as I was about to put the dish I prepared for Luke in the bin, I heard the door open. 'Honey, I'm home.' It was Luke. What shall I do?! I could put it in the bin and pretend that, that never happened or just give it to him. It's the thought that counts, right?! Carol got a plate ready for Luke and walked to the dining room. I trailed behind her with my plate. Luke walked in, 'Oh my goodness! What's that amazing smell?!' He exclaimed, giving Carol a peck on the cheek. I felt awkward and it was obvious he was referring to Carol's food. As she placed the plate down on the table, Luke sat down too. He got a knife and a fork and started eating the food. He munched until he mumbled, 'Babe! This is delicious.' He shoved another mouthful into his mouth. Carol smirked at me and mouthed, 'Winner!' I ignored her and muttered, 'Luke.' Luke turned his face towards me and took a quick drink, 'Yes?' He said. 'I.. I..' I hesitated, 'Thanks for coming with me earlier, as a thank you I made you Roast Lamb but I don't think it's your favourite anymore according to Carol so I'll just put it in the bin.' As I was about to walk back into the kitchen, I was stopped by Luke. 'No wait! I'd like to try it. I love Roast Lamb.' He smiled. He pushed Carol's Shepherd's pie aside and grabbed my plate. He took a mouthful before slowly nodding his head and closing his eyes for a few seconds. 'Mmmm...' He smiled. I think he might like it. He opened his eyes before grinning like a dog at me. 'You're still one of the best cooks I know, Alice.' I blushed a little but Carol's deathly looks sent me shivers and I stared at the ground. 'Thanks Luke.' 'No! Thank YOU.' He smiled. 'URRGGGH!' Carol groaned. 'What, babe?!' Luke raised an eyebrow. 'What about my Shepherd's pie?!' She cried. 'I'll eat it!' He laughed, 'After I've eaten Alice's Roast Lamb.' Alice- Winner, Carol- Loser.
