*The next day*

Bradie

I got home from church around 11:30 like usual. One of these days Hayes is going to go to church with me. I went up stairs it get out of my skirt. I wore a skater skirt, combat boots, and a sweater to shirt sense it was chilly this morning. I was just about to change when my mom called up the stairs.

"BRADIE COME ON NOW! GET IN THE CAR WE HAVE TO GO!"

I sprinted down the stairs. "What?!"

"Get in the car I'll explain on the way." she had worry in her voice. She grabbed her keys and purse and hurried out the door. When I got to the car I saw Ryan was already in. He had shot gun so I was stuck in the back. I got out my phone to text Hayes. I wasn't gonna ask my mom questions until we were on the road so I could give her a chance to calm down.

B-'hey, I literally just got home from church and my mom screams at me it get in the car and we have to go and she won't tell me where yet 😐'

I waited for about 5 minutes and I had no response from Hayes and I haven't asked my mom where we are going yet. I decided I would ask her sense she looked a little more calmed down.

"Hey mom, where are we going?"

She tensed up and let out a sigh. Like she really didn't want to say what she was about to. "The hospital." She kept her gaze on the road.

"For who?" I got a little uneasy.

"Hayes."

I looked down at my phone to see I had a text from Nash. I slowly lifted up my head to see Ryan turned around looking at me and my mom watching me from the rear view mirror. I felt my eyes stinging threatening to let tears escape. I felt one tear leave my eye and roll down my cheek. It landed on the corner of my mouth and I could taste the salty water. "What happened?" I whispered. But she could still hear me.

Ryan decided to answer me. "He ate something he was allergic too. They were out to eat and he didn't have his epi-pen with him and they called the ambulance-" I couldn't manage to hear the rest. My vision became bleary. I blinked a couple times and the tears fell. I could see Ryan unbuckling his seat belt. He climbed over the seat and say down next to me. I laid my head on his shoulder. He wrapped his arms around me. I sobbed into his arm. He rested his head on mine. "Shhhh it's going to be okay... He's going to be just fine" he whispered. I tried to tell myself that but I don't know why I felt doubt. I didn't even know what I was feeling exactly. It was a mix of hurt, sadness, non belief. "Why don't you think he's going to be okay?" Ryan asked. He was rubbing my head with his thumb.

"I've lost so many people. It's hard to have faith now." I whispered back.

"He's going to be fine." I nodded my head on his chest. I wiped away a few tears but they were still coming a little. "I love you Bradie." I was shocked. I can't remember the last time we said I love you to each other. I don't say I love you to my family a lot, I think mostly because of me being adopted. But I do love them.

"I love you too," I said back. We stayed in that position until we got to hospital. I actually liked his company. When we pulled in the parking lot my mom let me out at the entrance doors so she could go park. Ryan and I got out of the car. I sprinted inside and Ryan just jogged behind me. I ran to the front desk. I caught my breath, "Hayes Grier please." I told the lady at the front desk. Ryan caught up to me and stood next to me. He rested his arms on the desk.

"How do you spell the name?" She asked. She wasn't older but she wasn't too young either. She had dark brown hair with pale skin. She looked probably in her mid 40s.
