You could just totally skip this part, I just thought if put my debate speech more for interests same than anything else. Enjoy x
Each generation is shaped by demographics, historic events and economic forces. The way we grow up deeply influences our interpretation of the world. That's why I believe that 18-30 year olds do deserve to be called the Snowflake Generation.
Technological advances have given young adults access to the world at their fingertips like never before. It has never been easier to procrastinate writing an essay, find out what that groove between your nose and your mouth is called and inflict your endless avocado toast pictures into the world. This may also be the cause of their sense of entitlement, if you are brought up being given constant feedback and attention on social media then why would you think that entitlement stops as soon as you enter the world of work? 80% of millennials said they want regular feedback from their managers, this is because when they receive responses it releases a chemical in their brains called dopamine, this chemical is also released when they receive food and money. All these people require a lot of attention than previous generations - because it makes them feel good - so of course they are going to be perceived as needy, entitled and self-centred!
This also brings up the point of parenting, not necessarily bad parenting but more protective, cautious and aware parents with most (but not all) stepping over the mark. Increase in bullying awareness has dramatically changed parents behaviour over the years and while bullying has decreased this correlates with the increase in so called 'helicopter parents'. Helicopter parenting has been found to cause lower levels of maturity and resilience, and guess what? The helicopter parenting style is typically adopted by millennial children also known as the snowflake generation!
More evidence of the snowflake generation is the huge increase in emergency service usage.
With almost 50% of calls to 999 calls being more appropriately handled as a non-emergency call and up to 70% of police calls could have done with handled without the emergency service.
That's a staggering number of protective parents and feeble young people ringing the emergency services for stupid things. There was a woman who called to "complain about the placement of the sprinkles on her ice cream", another to say he had a "fly in his ear" and finally a man who called 999 as he was advised to call 111 "but didn't know the number"
This just proves that these people don't know when their sense of entitlement and non-judgemental "safe-spaces" need to stop. Because people are judging the millions of immature time wasters and sensitive attention seekers also known as the snowflake generation. And in the words of Tyler Durden, "you are not special. You are not a beautiful or unique snowflake. You're the same decaying organic matter as everything else"
Thank you
