"Hello. My name is Adrien Marais." The older looking man greeted.
Alex got really excited, never thinking he'd ever see this man live and so close. He'd only see him on videos and on public speakings, but he'd never been this close. He was so annoyed that he was in the last row, if only Mia hadn't been so eager about the last desk. He would've gotten a better view and maybe Adrien would notice just how interested he was in comparison to everyone else.
"And today I decided to bring you a fresh new human for your eyes only." Adrien pointed at the girl next to them, who looked quite uncomfortable being there
She looked almost scared. Like she hated the fact they were all looking at her. She kept looking at her hand cuffs, always shifting her hands, obviously uncomfortable in them. Occasionally she'd look up at the class, but she'd look down just as quickly. The people that were there looked confused and as if they were questioning the morality of the act.
"You were chosen as the best class from this school. I used to go to this school too, a couple of hundred years ago. It was fun..." He sighed, as if though he didn't quite have fond memories of the school in the long run.
"Sit on the chair, dear. I'll stand." He pushed the girl in handcuffs slightly, motioning to the chair where he should be sitting absentmindedly.
Adrien put a hand drawn picture on the blackboard. It was in black and white and it looked quite old. It consisted of a girl floating in something that looked like pure black, with a nice white silky gown on her. Or at least, it was assumed the gown was white.
"When we die, we go in line. Not on the back of the line, but somewhere randomly. We go into a state of existence. Only the mind works, for countless of years to come. We think and think about the same things, but we don't have memories. It's a horrible faze of just existing and not living. Until we finally get to the point we were waiting for." Adrien explained, knowing all of them already knew all of this, but it was just for the sake of the presentation.
He pulls out another picture, this one looking oddly never. This one was lifeless and only gray, without any colors. The only colored part of the photo was the person that was located in front, with visible bright blonde hair. Everyone around here were monotonous with grey clothes, hair, eyes, faces... It gave off a feeling of uneasiness, yet all of them, no matter how long they knew this existed, still gave off the same creepy uneasy vibe.
"The judges judge you. They observe your life, they know everything you did. Depending on the age you died, you either go to the younger parts of Hell, or the older parts. They give you a caretaker who's responsible for you until you reach a certain point." Adrien paused, smiling.
"Which is why you're here. You all want to be caretakers, right?" He questioned, looking at the class.
The whole class stated yes, but a muffled no was heard from the last rows. Alex nudged Mia, who already looked visibly bored. He wanted her to be interested once in her life, yet here she was looking like she always did. Uninterested and borderline disappointed.
"Why are you here if you don't want to be a caretaker?" Adrien's voice was heard, while he was looking directly at Mia.
She looked at him with confusion. No matter how obvious it was that he was looking at her, she still didn't quite know if it was her he was referring to. He couldn't hear her no out of all the enthusiastic answers. Especially compared to Alex's. His loud and bubbly yell compared to her solemn 'no' gave her almost a suicidal vibe.
"Me?" Mia questioned, pointing a finger at herself.
"I didn't hear a no from anyone else, dear." He smiled, although it was obvious he was oddly enough grinning to himself.
Alex gave her a pissed off look. Mia didn't even want to show him he annoyed her to no end, so she ignored her dark blue haired friend.
"I could be doing something more interesting with myself. Taking care of new people doesn't sound fun. Especially if I mess it up." Mia answered, her arms crossed and her attitude obviously not caring.
"Are you more of a judge then, miss..." Adrien questioned, wanting to get her name.
"Amyot. Mia Amyot. And no, I'm not. I don't care about that either. But unlike a caretaker, it looks like this at least takes more mental power." She continued, her voice harsh as she looked at the older man, who she didn't quite like anyway.
"Nobody forced you here, dear. You're just part of the unmotivated part of this community. If you're not interested in anything, rather go to the lower classes where you belong. This school doesn't have room for needlessly rebellious and lazy students." Adrien stated, not very happy he even had the displeasure of meeting a girl like this.
"Your rude behavior doesn't really say 'caretaker'." Mia retorted, obviously knowing no boundaries as when she should shut up.
"Ah, your clothing doesn't say 'respectable'." Adrien retorted, obviously having a huge ego.
"You fucking-" Mia was cut off by Alex.
"Mia, stop it!" Alex said, not loudly but firmly.
Mia's cheeks were red from anger and embarrassment. She stopped, not wanting to, but she noticed it was enough when Alex told her so. It was embarrassing that she went on in such a stupid argument. But her temper was just so easy to challenge that it was difficult not to anger.
"But anyway, for those who are actually interested in the topic..." Adrien gave a snarky look to Mia, before continuing.
"Let's start with the experiment." He finished, getting Mia very, very, very annoyed.
But she had one thing to say about this though. At least he made it interesting.
