Pancakes

The three of them made a list, but it was mostly by Alex who knew a bit too much about cooking. Adrien guessed his cooking skills very nicely. The girl, very amazed by his knowledge, decided to listen to everything he suggested, herself being quite clueless about cooking herself. Or at least, very confused and forgetful.

"That's... A lot." Was Adrien's only comment.

"You said you'd buy anything we needed." Mia grinned.

"I didn't mean I'd buy anything you'd need to stuff your face... But I guess I'm the one that made this easy to abuse, so I'll just buy whatever's here." Adrien concluded, not very amused but deciding he had more serious things to complain about.

"Thank you, Mr. Marais!" Alex smiled energetically, looking somehow excited.

"Yeah, thank you!" The girl added, looking like she was somehow infected by his energy.

Somehow baffled by this, Adrien smiled back.

"Yeah, yeah." He looked like he was holding back his smile, but he found Alex's energy somehow addicting.

When he left, the trio went into the kitchen. Mia made herself at home right away, not having the slightest bit of hesitation to open his fridge, as if she was here millions of times already.

"Jesus, this guy is stacked." Mia said in bewilderment.

"Mia, don't just go rummaging through his things!" Alex scolded a bit, not getting how she could do it with such ease.

"Hey, you think he wouldn't be grateful if we started with cooking earlier?" She questioned, grinning as she pulled out a bunch of cooking supplies from his fridge, including eggs, milk and bananas.

"Don't you think this is invasion of privacy?" He continued to question her, trying to get her to think about this.

"This is Adrien we're talking about." Mia concluded, sitting at the table in the kitchen.

"Well, uh, true." Alex agreed, understanding now that Adrien would most likely appreciate them working by themselves.

"I'm in the mood for some pancakes." She stated excitedly.

"You didn't even ask what she'd want." Alex looked at the girl, who suddenly seemed like she just woke up when they looked at her.

"I doubt she wouldn't want pancakes. Do you want pancakes?" Mia asked her quickly, which was so different from her lazy manner a few moments ago that it left her bewildered.

"I, uh, um... Yes?" She answered in a confused manner, she forgot what a pancake even was.

"See?" Mia looked at Alex, showing of her fangs as she grinned.

"Let's get to it then!" Alex stated, liking how she was suddenly enthusiastic about this.

He got surprised when Mia actually passed him the supplies, handing him over the milk or flour, whenever he needed it. She acted like a hyperactive servant, like she somehow knew what he wanted. But as much as she was excited the first minute, she looked lazy and bored the next. Probably because Alex didn't let her eat, he made her wait until he made all of them. 'It was impolite to eat before everyone else."

"Meh, this is boring." Mia mumbled, her purple hair falling in her eyes as she rested her elbow on the kitchen table.

"But the last couple of ones are almost done!" Alex told her, not wanting her to give up so soon.

"I'll go be in the living room if you need me. I'll go check out what Adrien has on his shelves." Mia said, looking like all of the energy she had a mere second ago left her.

"Mia, you can't rummage through his things!" He wanted to run after her, but he was in the middle of heating a nice pancake in a pan.

"I don't care, Al!" She yelled from the other room.

"Once I'm done with these pancakes, expect me to... Um, to..." He had some trouble making up something harsh to scare her.

"To say some really mean and scolding things!" He yelled, but felt embarrassed as soon as he left out those words, realizing they sounded terrible.

"My knees are shaking, Al." He could hear her voice, along with drawers being opened.

He only sighed. Even if he went there and started yelling at her, she wouldn't stop. She was too stubborn and reckless, and that combined with herself thinking she was always right... It wasn't a good combination, just to say.

He noticed he didn't have quite enough eggs for another three ones, and just as he wanted to go away to get them, he turned around and saw them there. The girl was holding them in front of him in a little bowl, just like Mia would do. It just looked more innocent and cute when she did it. He couldn't help but smile as he took the bowl from her.

"Awww, thank you." Alex told her as he continued to do his business.

"Why are you smiling so much?" The girl asked him, a bit confused at him.

"Ah, my little sister used to give me stuff like that while I was cleaning or cooking or anything basically. We were a real duo, the two of us." Alex said happily, as if he was glad to remember it.

She got a bit scared. How bad will it be once she remembered someone? Will she miss them? How much will she miss them? Will it break her?

"Do... Do you miss her?" She asked curiously, just like she always did, but this time it was more cautious, she didn't want to make him feel bad.

"Of course I miss her. I just don't want to make something so happy into... Something negative." He explained, but even though the sentence seemed happy and motivated, he said the last two words somehow solemnly.

She felt something. Like this was familiar to her. A kitchen. Someone taller. A male. It was blurry, but it seemed clear to her. She felt familiarity.

"I used to help my dad cook." She uttered out the sentence, it just went out naturally.

Something vague was in her mind. A taller man, not by much, making pancakes. It wasn't clear, but somehow she remembered. She remembered the distinct smell, the care she felt and how helpful she felt in that exact moment... She finally remembered something.
