I jolted awake at the sound of my alarm clock, groggily opening my eyes from the three hours of sleep I managed to get. My eyelids felt like weights and my body was fatigued. My life would be a billion times easier if I didn't need sleep, if only that were my ability.Forcing my brain to shut out all the events from yesterday, I carefully got out of bed and got ready for the day. For some reason I just assumed today would be a normal school day, then again maybe I just wanted it to be. If it wasn't, it'd mean Pete's words had actually held meaning, and that was one if the very ideas I lost sleep over.
I made my way to the kitchen, where I found Ana and Sam eating away at a typical school morning feast, courtesy of chef Sylvia.
"Where Sylvia?" I asked, typically she'd stay, she was the most morning person out of all of us.
"Went to school early, Art club," Sam replied, still grazing on her mini breakfast buffet.
I nodded my head, grabbed some food, and took a seat next to them. We sat in silence for about ten minutes, the only sound the clinking of forks to plates. Finally Ana broke the ice.
"We can't ignore it. Sure I'd love to, but you know as well as me we can't just blow over this like it was some bad dream. It happened and we need to make a decision." With that she got out of her seat, slammed her plate into the sink, grabbed her bag, and headed out for school.
For some reason I expected school to be different, like the world was going to cater to my panicked state of mind, but of course that wasn't the case.
The whole day was another blur of real life people with personas. A batch of teenagers with seemingly unending issues. I'm not saying I don't have any, but at least mine don't revolve around clothes and boys, if only I could say the same about the girls at my school.
Lunch went about the same as breakfast, only it was filled with small talk. When it came to my sisters it was almost better to have silence, because at least it meant we were thinking. But when it was all small talk, that's when something was off.
Cautiously I walked into English looking for any sign of Pete. Thankfully his seat was empty. I sighed a breath of relief.
"Aww glad to see you missed me."
I tense up. Of course fate wouldn't let me off that easy.
I turn my back to see a smiling Pete. I give a fake smile and head to my seat, him following closely behind. We take our seats and the bell rings.
"Hello welcome I'm your substitute Mr.Echols," The man at the front of the class spoke. He was a simple man, plain. Nothing special. Wore a typical teacher outfit, spoke with bland tone.
Something inside of me felt off, probably due to the very presence of Pete. Seeing his face gave me chills and butterflies all at the same time. Now I understand how Ana feels.
I start scribbling on the worksheet the sub passed out. Looking down, trying to block out the classroom of thoughts, including my own.
Next thing I know I hear a scream escape Ana's mouth, and I look up to see an arrow pointed straight at me.
