Chapter 20 – Brit, Brat and Brittany

All I knew was that one second I was sleeping peacefully, and the next moment a missile shot over me. Why does all my waking up moments have to be so dramatic?

“You bitch!” What?

“You absolute bitch!” I blinked open my eyes to see who was using such sort of language not only with me in the same room but also at me? Slowly I focused on the missile in question.

Brittany!

I sprang up from the bed and quickly jumped into a hug with her. I couldn’t believe we had stayed apart for so long. It was like yesterday she was staying back to be with her boyfriend and ditching the whole London plan.

Would things have been different had she come with me?

Of course they would have, Brittany knew how to handle things, people and more specifically men. She would have gotten out of such a situation in a blink of an eye. I closed my eyes and just hugged her. So much had changed, but she was still my best friend, she would always be my best friend.

After a split second she hugged me back, tighter than even. With all the tennis champion ships, it was safe to say she was one of the strongest girl I know of, and currently she was using that strength to crush me into her.

“Roe!” she murmured, almost sobbed into my ears.

What?! Brittany crying?

What would have happened to make her cry? She was the girl who hadn’t shed a tear in the last eight years. The last time she cried was when her mother passed away. She had locked herself in a room for six days, while I stayed outside waiting for her. She had refused to come out, but six days later when she stepped out, she had lost a couple of things. In that room she had lost her perfect eyesight, her baby weight and tears she had left. I remember when one of these days I asked her what she did in that room for so long, she simply said, “I was getting rid of any tears I had, they were all just pulling me down”

What had happened?!

I pushed her away to look into her eyes, she was really crying! What happened in these days when I wasn’t here? Could I have been not there for her when such an event happened?

“Brit! What happened? Are you ok?” I was genuinely concerned by now. It was not like Brittany to cry.

“You bitch, You bitch… uhh, you selfish bitch” she kept repeating between her snobs.

“Brit?”

“Don’t call me that!”

I looked at her completely confused and baffled. What was going on? I knew I had not been there for her when she went through her problem, but I couldn’t have been, I wasn’t even in town. I didn’t even know there was something wrong at the first place.
