[A/N: Uploading a day early so you guys have a chance to respond to the poll, if you want to call it that! It is further down, after the chapter itself. Enjoy!]
Rhaena knew there was a reason why she did not like the red woman. She touched him, tried to seduce him. The very thought of Melisandre and Jon makes her blood boil even hotter than normal. She had arrived at Jon's chambers not even ten minutes ago, ready to assist him with anything he needed. That is when he confessed to her, barely meeting her eyes, ashamed. Through her building rage, he explained that he resisted as best as he could, even to the point of telling Melisandre of their affair in an attempt to make her stop. She had shed her robes and was bare and had touched him, he said. He claimed to feel some kind of power holding him still when all he wanted to do was command her to leave. Rain stormed out of his chambers without a word as he called for her to come back, but she was not, and is still not, willing to listen to reason.
Rain finds the red woman easy enough. Melisandre smirks at her as if she knows why she has come and watches her approach calmly. Calm is far from what Rain feels as she draws her dagger in rage. Melisandre does not even flinch as she is met with the gleaming blade before her. "Why did you do it?" Rain yells, blind to the attention she is drawing. The woman tilts her head, a smile still on her face. "Answer me! Did your foul god tell you to do it? Why!?"
Her answer is simple and calmly said. "He is a quiet one. He fights the power within him."
"You stay away from me and him or I'll cut you open and leave you to your fiery god."
"I sense your power as well. I know what you are, I have seen it."
"...What?"
Suddenly, she grasps her face with her hand, looking in to her eyes with her crimson gaze. "I see you," Melisandre begins to state. "sitting on a patch of snow stained red, a howl close by. I see golden eyes in flight, violet eyes being born, blue eyes of death, green eyes filled with hate." She furrows her brow, her eyes looking right through her. "I see you fighting, screaming, falling. You are determined and fierce on a field of snow. I see your mother crying for you. I see your brother smiling at you." Rhaena cuts her off by pulling away from her grasp.
She is somewhat stunned that she knows of her family. "They care little for me. Why would my mother cry? Why would Daemon-"
"You will meet them again." Melisandre says almost hauntingly. Her smile has returned. She gathers her robes in her hands. "As will we." She tells her as she begins to walk away. Rain holds her dagger in her scarred hand, her grip strengthening on the hilt. After sheathing it, she returns to Jon and informs him of the red woman's seeing. She should have killed her right then and there. The woman will continue to torment her thoughts with her mere existence. Knowing the witch will be out there still, offering victims to her red god, fills Rhaena with dread.
"What if she's right about what she saw?" She tells Jon in his chamber after relaying what Melisandre had told her. He sits at his desk, his hand scratching his beard. "Death and fighting... And a birth." Rain slumps down in the seat before her love, his eyes wide as he watches her quietly. "Will we have a child in this place?" She shakes her head. "We can't. We'll be executed..."
"We'll be alright. I promise you." He says, trying to calm her. "Even if we do," He pauses for a moment, his eyes darting around in thought before coming back to hers. "we'll figure it out. We can think of an explanation."
"Will we be doing this for the rest of our lives? Keeping up facades to keep them happy and unsuspecting while we lay together in secret?" She begins to panic. They'll be found out one day, she knows it, and when they find out they'll be killed. She feels herself begin to hyperventilate. "Should we keep doing this?" She looks at him worriedly, short breaths leaving her. She didn't want to hear the answer if it was negative. She couldn't handle it.
"Of course." Jon says immediately and takes her hands in his. "It will be alright, Rhaena. I love you. Damn all of them and their laws, do you hear me? Damn them." She smiles sadly. "Nothing shall keep us apart. While I spend the remainder of my days here, all I ask in return is to be able to see you every one of those days, to hear your laugh, to feel your kiss. You are the reason I continue to press on. Without you, it would only be the same mundane tasks everyday."
Rain feels happy tears roll down her cheeks and she smiles widely. Any doubt she had prior melts away in to nothing. She leans over the table, letting him take her face within his warm hands and press his lips against hers. He is her rock when she begins to have a sliver of doubt. "I love you, Lord Commander."
They both chuckle and Jon grins widely. "And I you." He stands and rounds the desk to pick her up. As she laughs and he carries her to his bed covered with furs, he kisses her cheek. He lays her down on his bed. "Whatever may come at us, we will face it together. Always."
Stannis left with his soldiers just a few hours later. Rain and Jon watched them go while standing cloaked heavily in black fur. They watched as Melisandre mounted her horse and gave them a final glance over her shoulder. She smirked at both of them, her crimson eyes meeting Rain's purple and Jon's dark brown before looking forward again. Glancing at Jon, Rain saw him holding a protective glare at the woman. She felt relief as Stannis and his army galloped out of the gates, across the snowy road and finally out of sight across the horizon. Only when they were truly gone did she feel at ease again for the first time in weeks.
[A/N: I'm at a bit of a crossroads for the next chapter, so I'll ask you guys. Which route would you like to see Rhaena go? Should she participate in Hardhome or stay behind? I have both versions written and afterwards, the story continues as planned. The only differences being: If she goes along to Hardhome, she has the knowledge of what she sees there, while staying at Castle Black means she will be present for a certain character's passing.]
