Jay's POV
The sirens were loud. Extremely loud. I jogged with the crowd of people who were all trying to get into the safety building. It had started. The 'Zombie apocalypse'. But these 'zombies' weren't really zombies, they were just sick sick people. They needed help. But all these selfish people were scared and wanted to hide. I glanced around. There were men and women, babies and adults. Teenagers like me. I recognized someone in the frantic crowd. Lewis. He went to my school, before it closed down. He wasn't the nicest person but it didn't matter anymore. I grab his coat sleeve and tug, he slowed his jogging feet and looked down at me. I wasn't very tall, but wasn't short either.
"Jay..?" He asked questionably, I nodded. He grabbed my hand and began running, we pushed passed people until there was a stop. Everyone stopped.
"What happened?!" Lewis yelled over the crowd.
"They closed the doors!" Someone screamed, suddenly everyone began panicking. Lewis' nervous face turned to panic as well.
"We have to go" I yell up to him, he nodded and we bolted out of the crowd.
We ran for what felt like half an hour until we ended up on an abandoned free-way. We stopped and walked.
"I was supposed to meet my parents in there" I say, putting my hands in my coat pockets. "They can't just leave people out here.. can they?" Lewis asked. I shrugged and looked down at my boots, the snow crunching against them.
"Do you have food?" I ask, hungry.
"My mom gave me a bag, there's food, but not much" he says, I glance at his backpack.
"There's a convenient store up ahead I believe, we can scavenge some stuff before other people start getting stuff" I suggest. He nods,
"Sounds like a plan".
"Do you have any weapons?" I ask, glancing around. I didn't see anyone- anything. But that didn't mean they weren't around.
"My dads pistol" he says,
"Okay good" I respond.
As we walked I occasionally glanced up at him, his cheeks were red along with his nose. Probably from the cold. We passed a lot of cars, and Lewis would glance inside each time we passed one. Eventually we reached the store, when we got in, he turned around and locked the door. The store had already been rummaged through. Stuff was thrown on the ground and the lights were out. I look out one of the windows, it was getting dark.
"We should spend the night in here" I say, slightly nervously.
"You afraid of the dark?" Lewis joked, I roll my eyes. I looked through the shelves and found a back pack, the front was torn but it would hold. I also found pain killers, a blanket, a broken pocket knife, rope and bandages. I threw them all in my bag. I than sat down against the desk and pulled myself into a ball, freezing.
"Found food!" I heard Lewis yell excitedly. He ran over and sat across from me, handing me a granola bar. I watched him throw a bunch of other food into his bag. He than looked at me and gave me an awkward smile.
"Cold?" He asks, looking me up and down.
"Very" I sigh. He awkwardly scoots closer and wraps his arm around me, I hesitatingly lean my head against his shoulder. The only relaxation I've had in what felt like forever.
"So.. we're sticking together.. right..?" I ask. I was terrified of being left alone, my parents had already left me to go to the safety place alone.
"Definitely" He says, pulling me closer. We huddle together, warming up and eventually falling asleep.
