Chapter 26 -Preparing for the New Year-

Sorry for the long pause:( I hope I'll be able to update more regularly!

I was eating breakfast and smiled at Edward and Carlisle arguing about what is romantic and whose presents were better. Bella sat down next to me and just like me smiled at our men.

“What is all the fuss about?” Emmett asked and sat down on my other side. “Same old, same old. Two guys fighting about who is more romantic,” I told him. Emmett looked at me incredulously and then listened to them.

They didn’t seem to notice us in their light argument. Emmett let out a loud guffaw and watched them like it would be the most hilarious TV show.

“Rose? Bella? Esme?” Alice called from the other room.

“Yes?” I called. “Could you come up to my room for a second?” “Just a moment,” I called. Bella and Rose watched me for a second when I walked into the living room to say good morning to my most favorite little ones and then they walked up the stairs.

“Good morning,” I called happily. Both their faces turned in my direction and both smiled at me. “How is it going?” I asked Nessie. “Good, we’re just playing around,” she smiled brilliantly and motioned to all the toys lying on the ground.

Both sat there in between the toys on a blanket and Carlie was sitting opposite Nessie against a pillow and was watching me fascinated. I kissed her and stroked her light hair. “Okay, then I won’t interrupt. Aunt Alice wanted to do something,” I told them and cuddled Renesmee.

“Oh, can we play together later?” she asked and her eyes shined in expectation. “Yes,” I laughed and cuddled both once more before I walked upstairs. Just before I was there, I could see Carlisle and Edward laughing and they were walking together into the living room to their girls.

I quietly opened Alice’s and Jasper’s bedroom door and walked inside.

“There you are,” Alice smiled and took my hand to lead me to the bed where Bella, Rose, Sue, Kate, Tanya and Carmen were sitting. I sat down in between Rose and Kate.

“Voila!” Alice called and opened her closet. In it were six bags. “There is one for everyone for today,” Alice explained and handed each one a dark pink bag. “Kate, Tanya, Rose and I have been shopping the other day. I think you will all like your outfits.”

Those four didn’t look into their bags, but Bella, Sue, Carmen and I did. Bella held up a tight fitting deep blue dress. It had twinkling gems on the right shoulder and off the shoulder on the other side. “I like it,” Bella smiled at Alice. A big smile spread on her face and she hugged Bella.

Carmen had a red flowing dress with Spanish flair that reached the knees. Sue’s dress was a black wide flowing one with embroidered patterns at the top. I had already been happy with the one dress I had worn yesterday to my date, which I thought would be for this night. So I looked expectantly into my own bag.

All girls talked, meanwhile I took my outfit. My dress was cream colored and had a heart shaped neckline. In the front it was shorter than at the back and it was flowing. Also in the bag were cream colored high heels and sparkling ear rings.

“Other than that I think we have fixed everything for today. The guys have a surprise for us, so we’ll see,” Alice announced and grinned impishly. Of course, Alice already knew what they had planned.

After that was all settled and Alice had dismissed us, I walked into our bedroom to put the bag away and then decided to take a shower.

I was totally after that. With the memories of last night I walked smiling down the stairs into the living room where Carlisle and Edward were still sitting with their little girls. “Mama,” Carlie called and lifted her arms. I sat on the ground next to Nessie and the guys and lifted Carlie onto my lap.

“Can we play now?” Nessie asked eagerly. I nodded and smiled at her. She jumped up and grabbed a jigsaw from the toy box. She spilled the parts on the ground and we tried to find the fitting ones. Edward and Carlisle helped. Carlie was meanwhile playing with a soft book.

We played another board game together and then Nessie wanted to hear a story. Edward sat next to Nessie, I was in the middle and Carlisle held our daughter. I read a story about a little girl exploring her world and learning lots of stuff about animals and her surroundings. It might have been a little bit boring for Nessie, as she normally already read novels and poems of e.g. Frost or several others. Nevertheless she listened and after the story both girls were sleeping soundly in the arms of their fathers.

I smiled lovingly at those two. “I think we should get them upstairs so that they can rest for a couple of hours before New Year’s Eve,” Edward whispered and carefully lifted Renesmee. I nodded and Carlisle mimicked his action and brought Carlie into our bedroom.

Carlisle was at our closet putting out his outfit for this evening.

“I heard you guys will plan the evening,” I told him. He turned around to me with an impish grin, “Yes, you will see… I won’t say anything,” he laughed. I pouted, but hugged him to me. “It will be great no matter what,” I said and believed in my words.

Then there was a knock on the door. “Yes?” I asked. Sue peeked inside. “Alice asked for you and I think we wanted to prepare everything.” “That’s my cue,” Carlisle smiled, took his clothes and walked into the bathroom.

I followed Sue into the kitchen. “So, we didn’t have so much time to speak calmly, how did you and Charlie like the trip so far?” I asked her. “It’s great. Thanks for inviting us. The kids enjoy it, too and it is so nice to spend the holidays together, after all I think we are already family,” she said a bit timidly.

“Oh,” I cooed and hugged her. She smiled at me a bit more confidently and returned the hug. “Do you like your outfit?” she asked. “Yes, I hope our men didn’t plan anything too sporty or complicated, because that will be difficult in our outfits,” I smiled. “Definitely,” she laughed. We walked talking and laughing into the kitchen and were already expected by Rose and Alice.

“Only five hours left,” Alice said and pushed me gently over to one of the chairs. Next to me sat Leah and Sue. “Alice, that is enough time,” I argued. She only shrugged.

“Where is Charlie anyway?” I asked Sue while Alice was explaining to Rose what hairdos the wanted to make. “He should be together with the others. Jacob and Seth are with them as well,” she explained. “Okay,” I replied unsure.

Two hours later, we were all dressed and hair and makeup was ready. The girls were still sleeping and Bella wanted to wake her only an hour before so that she had enough rest. I wanted to do the same thing if Carlisle wouldn’t look after her. I didn’t even know that.

The guys walked down the stairs a minute later and Carlisle had Carlie in his arms. “See you in a couple of hours,” he said and kissed me. “Carlie woke up after I showered so I dressed her in the outfit you chose. She seems to have had enough rest,” he told me with a smile and handed a still a bit sleepy Carlie to me. She cuddled into my shoulder and played with the sparkling ear rings.

Edward and Emmett waved and smiled at me. I waved back and our men were out of the house.
