Around evening, Anna left because she had to prepare dinner. It had been rather two torturing hours after Alice’s action. She wouldn’t tell me what had happened.

I had to hold myself back to not push Anna outside, because I so badly wanted to know. I thanked her for her visit, hugged her and Avery and wished them good luck for the birthday party and again reassuring her that she could come over any time.

Then I closed the door in a swift move and looked at Alice. “So? It has nearly killed me not to know what has happened,” I said and pleaded with Alice. “Just wait,” she said. “What?” I asked exasperated. “Just a minute,” she said. I sighed dramatically and grumpily walked into the living room.

Rose had Carlie and held hands with her. She toddled over to me and I sat her on my lap. I kissed her hair and stroked her hands. I played itsy-bitsy spider with her and diverted my and her attention to it.

“We’re here,” Edward said suddenly and walked into the living room together with the rest. “Jasper and Emmett came over suddenly telling me that Alice had a vision,” Edward explained. He had Nessie in his arms and sat next to me. Bella did the same.

“So?” I asked. Alice paced up and down in the room and took a steadying breath. I looked at Edward and his face was full of horror and shock. I leaned back and focused only on my daughter in my arms. I wouldn’t think about what could cause such an expression. “Alice,” Rose called just as anxious as I was.

“Sorry, it’s just…” she stopped and stood in front of us.

“The Volturi are coming. Aro slipped up and got involved earlier than we thought. They are here in a month. From what I see they have the same strategy as last time but they have something up their sleeves I cannot see clearly… Aro has made it very clear that he comes to destroy. From what I could see, he got the information that you are a human again and he might even know that you have Carlie, but about that I cannot be sure…” She rubbed her temples, “ there are just so many blind spots and I cannot see,” she growled.

Jasper walked over to her and massaged her shoulders.

“Alice, you should tell her…” Edward said quietly to Alice. They kept eye contact for a couple of minutes. It was their way to communicate.

“Tell me what?” I asked. “Nessie, could you take Carlie and play upstairs in your play room?” Edward asked his daughter. She nodded and walked over to me. I gave her Carlie and they carefully walked upstairs.

As soon as they were out of hearing range, Edward stroked my back and I leaned against him. Alice also sat in front of me and looked into my eyes with sadness.

“Their plans have changed so often in only these couple of hours, we cannot be sure in any way if what I have seen will come true…”

“Alice, I can take it,” I whispered.

“I saw us having an argument with Aro and Caius. Their plan was to distract us and… there are these stupid blind spots again… but when I see again, you are flung into a tree in the clearing we are standing in. I cannot see who did it, but I can see you. You are dying in there because of the impact. Carlisle and Edward will try to save you but in the future I see you die. We failed… I cannot see much more, so I don’t know our fate, but I don’t think it’s much better,” Alice whispered the rest. She had tears in her eyes and hugged me.

I felt nothing. I sat there and thought over Alice’s words. I die… “Esme, don’t…” Edward said and put his finger on my chin so that I was looking at him. “There is no guarantee… Alice saw us all dying the last time. Carlisle wouldn’t be here, as wouldn’t be Jasper if Alice’s vision had been true. We will protect you, this will not happen,” he told me fervently.
