Chapter 51 -Bad Dreams-

That night I could barely sleep. But when I was finally asleep, I dreamed…

The scenery changed very often and when I thought about it the next morning I couldn’t remember everything, but that night it was vivid.

I was lying in our bed and everything was fuzzy at first, but I heard a baby crying… I looked down and held a small baby in my arms. It was a newborn and couldn’t have been older than a day. “Our child,” I heard Carlisle murmuring and he looked happily at me. I looked down again in wonder and watched the baby. It had green eyes with a little gold in them and bronze colored hair. The baby started to cry and I tried to soothe him but he wouldn’t stop…

All of a sudden I was standing in a clearing similar to the one in Forks. The one we used as our baseball field that soon got another meaning for us… I was surrounded by my loved ones and Carlisle held me to him. I could see the black cloaks emerging from the forest but my vision was too bad to see them clearly or to distinguish them.

Suddenly Aro was standing in front of me and stared at me with those deep red eyes… I fell to the ground in shock and looked around for help, but everyone has disappeared and I was alone… I looked at the Volturi and likewise there was no one left from the huge group but Jane, Caius and Aro, who smiled at me viciously. I tried to get up but couldn’t and rather tried to crawl away. It was futile of course… The three surrounded me and my vision was filled with red eyes and their cruel smiles.

“Now you die, Esme,” Aro laughed in his creepy child like voice. I started to cry but still managed to look at him defiantly. “Well, well,well, still trying to be a proud Cullen? You will lose that look soon,” Caius said through clenched teeth and walked forwards. I couldn’t go anywhere… Jane used her power on me and I screamed in pain…

In the next moment, the Volturi stepped aside and my family emerged. They each had a similar cruel smile on their faces and let me lie on the ground without even a second glance. Carlisle had Carlie in his arms and she was crying… But he wouldn’t give her to me. As much as I pleaded he just didn’t want to give me my daughter…

Another switch and I was back in my bed with my baby. But Aro was with us and took my baby away from me and ran away… Suddenly I was just in a dark room, alone… I cried and called for help and called the names of each one, but no one came…

“Esme,” I heard frantic voices and I was being shaken by several hands.

I opened my eyes suddenly and gasped. The images of my dream were swirling around in my mind and I started to cry. I sobbed uncontrollably and was trembling. “Esme!” I looked up through the tears and there was Carlisle. He was leaning over me and looked really worried. I sat up and hugged him close. He sat me on his lap and rocked us back and forth.

“You are fine, it was just a dream,” he whispered and stroked my back. I leaned against him and inhaled his sweet scent. I closed my eyes and tried to calm myself. Just a dream, it was just a dream. They won’t get your baby, I thought. “Carlie is fine. She is asleep,” Edward said. I nodded and reached my hand towards him. He took it with a smile and kneeled in front of us and held my hand while rubbing circles on it.

“What have you dreamt about?” Rose asked. She was leaning against the wall opposite me together with Bella. I looked around and except for Nessie and Carlie everyone was in here.

“I’m sorry,” I whispered. “For what?” Emmett asked puzzled. “For disturbing you. The dream was just so real…” I told them. “You are forgiven,” Jasper smiled and Emmett nodded.

I hugged Carlisle closer and tried to remember the details of my dream, but it was already blurry. “It was very confusing, but at first I was cradling a baby in my arms. I was happy and so was Carlisle… Then I was suddenly in a clearing and the Volturi came. You were all gone suddenly and Aro and Jane came closer and she used her gift on me,” I shuddered, “but then you came back but ignored me. Carlie was crying so much, but I couldn’t get to her. And then all of sudden I was back in the bedroom and Aro took away my baby,” I told them.

“They will never take Carlie away from you,” Rosalie assured me and looked determined to keep her promise. “They won’t even lay one finger on her,” Emmett growled. I smiled at them weakly.

“Esme, we will keep her safe and we will fight for her and us,” Bella promised and stepped to Edward’s side. “They cannot just decide over our life without consequences. It’s time that they get their own medicine,” she said. I sighed. “For our family,” I promised. “Exactly,” she smiled.

Suddenly I felt the cramps in my abdomen again and I hurriedly got up from Carlisle’s lap and ran into the bathroom. Alice ran after me and helped. “That was too much,” she murmured and patted my back.

“You should get some rest,” she told me and when I walked back, there was only Carlisle. He tucked me back in and held me in his arms.

“I will always be there…”
