The countdown started… 6 days to go…
The second day of the last week, I spent in Carlie’s nursery or downstairs as long as Carlisle was at work. He hadn’t looked at me since the fight yesterday and speaking to me was rare.
Yesterday, I hadn’t stopped crying until Rose and Alice walked inside. I thought it was Carlisle and looked up hopefully, but looked down again when I saw my two girls. They sat next to me on the ground and stroked my back and arms. They let me cry, knowing that I wouldn’t feel better anyway.
After some time, Alice spoke up: “How could he not understand?” she said angrily. I looked up and saw that she was fuming with anger. “Don’t give him the fault, be angry with me. I cannot tell him or you, so I am the person you should be angry with,” I whispered.
“Esme, you have a reason for not telling us and I know you don’t do it to hurt us. I rather believe it is nothing personal at all, you are protecting someone and that is never a reason to behave like he did. I am not thinking too much about it, because I know what you are doing, or so I think. So don’t give yourself the fault, as if you would hurt him on purpose,” she told me first soothingly but then the anger returned. “He is an idiot if he thinks that,” Rose spoke up for the first time.
“No matter what you are saying, even if you are right, I know it’s my fault and I cannot forgive myself for hurting him,” I whispered. “You are wrong though,” Rose whispered and hugged me close to her. I sighed and lay my head on her shoulder. “Let it all end soon,” I whispered and the tears stopped. Alice moved closer to me as well, hugging my other side so that I was sandwiched between them.
This morning, Alice and Jasper left reluctantly to go to college. They had decided to go these last days still, because it was only the start of the semester. This morning was also the first time I didn’t kiss Carlisle goodbye... He wasn’t in the bedroom all night and left with only a last glance at me followed by a sigh. He thought I was sleeping, but I couldn’t sleep the night. Maybe he didn’t hate me as much as I thought…
I went to shower after he left, because I couldn’t get any sleep anyway so I might as well use the time. After the shower I looked at myself again. If I would wear tight fitting clothes, you would definitely see the baby bulge already. I was nearly in the third month already. The baby is definitely growing faster. I had debated going to the doctor to check if the baby was fine, but I put that thought away until after Bella came back.
The baby bulge was another reason I couldn’t stay near Carlisle. I was already dressing myself in loose dresses and shirts so that he wouldn’t notice. He was not stupid after all. That meant keeping my distance and not as much as I wanted to be in his arms. Not that he wanted that right now… I sighed and got dressed in a wide top with a cardigan and one of my bigger jeans.
“I love you so much, no matter what,” I whispered to my stomach. Then I combed my wet hair and walked downstairs.
Rosalie as usual took the first shift and got Carlie her breakfast ready and dressed her. I walked into the kitchen and found the two as usual at the table. “Good morning,” Rose smiled and greeted me quietly. “Morning,” I said and sat next to Carlie.
“I thought we might take advantage of the last peaceful time in this house before the wolves and the other vampires are here. So what do you think about a picnic in the park?” I drank my orange juice and then smiled at her. “Sounds good,” I said and stroked Carlie’s hair.
“Then that’s settled. I already prepared the food in case we would go,” Rose laughed. “You know me well,” I laughed with her. Carlie squealed when we told her we would go to the park.
“Then let’s go,” Rose smiled and put my dish away.
I lifted Carlie out of the high chair and set her down on her feet. She reached for my hand and I walked hand in hand over into the hall to get our jackets. It was still early and it will definitely get warmer later according to our weather specialist Alice.
Sorry for the long wait...
