Chapter 17 -Trip to the Mountains-

the promised update :)

After that amazing breakfast, we all walked up to our rooms to get ready for our skiing trip. “I will get Carlie ready and then I get ready myself, okay?” Carlisle said and got up from the dining table.
“Okay,” I said and kissed him. He grinned at me, hugged me for a second and then walked upstairs with Carlie. She still held the book in her hands and played with it.

“When do we have to go?” Charlie asked me and got up as well.
“I think in two hours, the luggage should already be in the cars. And we will be there early enough. We need approximately five hours,” I told him.
“Okay, then I’ll get ready,” Charlie said and Sue joined him. She took his hand and they smiled at each other before they walked upstairs as well.

Bella watched them with a huge smile and then Edward and Nessie joined her side to get ready.

 So, slowly everyone left to get ready except for Alice and Rose, who were cleaning up at vampire speed. “Can I help?” I asked and tried to differentiate the forms of my two daughters. Alice laughed.
"No, Esme, we can do this, but thank you. You just get ready,” she told me.
“Okay,” I sighed and slowly walked upstairs.

Everyone was hurrying to get ready and Emmett and Jasper were laughing in Alice’s and his room. I opened my bedroom door and walked into my closet. I looked through my clothes and found something comfy that Alice would still approve of. I grabbed my outfit, put it on our bed and walked into our own bathroom to shower.

Half an hour later, I walked out of the bathroom, fully relaxed, and was about to get dressed.

Then there was a knock on the door. “Esme, can I come in?” Edward asked from the other side.

I looked at my towel outfit.
"Ehm, sure, I just got out of the shower, but no problem,” I called. He peeked inside and smiled before he walked inside and closed the door behind him.

“Alice didn’t want to tell you, but I think that you should know it. It can still be a surprise, but one that you are able to anticipate,” he winked.

I looked questioningly at him. He chuckled and sat down on the bed. “Alice saw that the Denalis wanted to join us on Christmas and Alice called them to let them know that we are on a trip and they happily accepted to come with us.”

“That’s nice, I can see Carmen again,” I smiled at him, "but…” I considered it and thought about the fact, that they didn’t even know that I changed and that Carlisle and I now had a four-month-old daughter.

“That’s exactly what I thought about, too. Alice says there shouldn’t be any complications, but she is not sure as she cannot see you and Carlie clearly,” he said.

I sighed and paced thoughtfully. “It’s nothing totally new. They already supported us with Renesmee, so there shouldn’t be any trouble, right?”

“That’s the question,” he said matter-of-factly.

I sighed again, "we would have to tell them soon anyway, we don’t want it to end like with Irina, so let’s get over with it,” I said and shivered when I thought about those consequences.

“We will be there with you,” Edward said softly and got up to hug me.

I hugged him close to me, although he was so cold. “Sorry,” he laughed and loosened my grip on him.
“No, I like that hug,” I laughed and he joined in.

Then Carlisle walked inside and looked at us a little bit confused. “I was about to get dressed, I just came out of the shower when Edward wanted to tell me something,” I explained and Edward told him all about the Denalis. Meanwhile I silently grabbed my clothes and walked into the closet to get dressed.

When I came out, there was only Carlisle. He was just coming out of the bathroom and only wore a towel around the hip and left me marveling.

He smirked at me and moved a hand through his hair. “Hey, beautiful,” he greeted me and held his arms open for me. I grinned and walked right into them.
“Hey, handsome,” I greeted him back and enjoyed his proximity.

“I should get ready,” he said after a couple of minutes. I sighed but let him walk into the closet to get clothes. I sat on the bed and waited. “Do you think there might be a problem with the Denalis and Carlie?” Carlisle asked from the closet and came in my line of sight with only his underwear.

“I hope not. I actually doubt that, I mean they already know such a child because of Renesmee and they learned rather the painful way that one should be careful with one’s judgments, we all have. So, there shouldn’t be a problem,” I told him thoughtfully.

“I don’t really think too much about it, I’m still happy and look forward for our trip.”

“You’re right as always,” he sighed,” I should worry less, but the past has given us too many problems to be too optimistic.”

“I know, but the Volturi haven’t checked on us in more than a year and I think they are still shocked about what Alice showed them, so they should be out of the picture for a while.” Carlisle nodded and just buttoned up his shirt.

“I hope they will let us be,” he murmured and hugged me close. I kissed his neck and jaw and then moved up to his lips. “I love you,” he whispered and lifted me up to kiss me properly.

“And I will always love you,” I whispered back and prolonged our kiss. He chuckled and lifted me up further.

“We should get ready, the others are already downstairs,” he told me, but instead of letting me down, he cradled me in his arms and smiled brilliantly at me.

“I like that means of transportation,” I said and laughed. He walked towards the door. “Wait, I still need my jacket and boots,” I said and looked around the room to find them.

“They should be downstairs. I think Alice said something about that.”
“Okay,” I said and snuggled to his ice-cold chest, which didn’t bother me the slightest.

“Jacket, boots, hat, scarf and gloves,” Alice smirked and gave me the package of items.
“Thanks,” I said and got ready. “Voila,” I laughed.
“Beautiful and warm,” Carlisle smirked.

Rose walked into the hall with Carlie in her arms. “She is sleeping,” she whispered and stood next to me so that I could look at her. She was dressed in a cute pink snowsuit with a fitting light pink hat with bear ears.

“I dressed her in only tights and a pullover under that for the car ride, otherwise that could be too warm,” Carlisle told me.
“You’re right.”

Charlie and Sue walked downstairs then, too and Sue was dressed similarly to me.

“Let’s go then,” Alice said and guided us to the cars.

Rose put Carlie into the car seat in our Mercedes and opened the snowsuit so that Carlie was only in her clothes. “Thanks,” I told her and hugged her.

“Always,” she answered with a smile. “See you in a few hours,” she winked and walked over to Emmett to get into his jeep.

Alice waved at us from the Porsche and Edward was still discussing routes with Charlie in front of their cruiser and Volvo.

Bella smiled at me. I waved in her direction.

Leah and Seth were already inside the cruiser and Jacob in the back with Renesmee in the Volvo. I watched them some more and then sat down on the passenger seat.

Carlisle was already inside and smiled at me. “Ready?” he asked.
“Of course,” I laughed and he started the car.

Behind us, four cars followed us on the narrow path to the highway.
