We sat there for another immeasurable time until my stomach growled and broke the comfortable silence. The next second the room was filled with Carlisle’s light laughter. It was like music to me. I haven’t heard him laughing for a very long time…

I laughed with him, but I was still really exhausted; not so much emotional anymore, because the burden was finally lifted off of me a bit, but rather physical. I haven’t slept well the entire weeks. “You should eat something, my love,” Carlisle smiled and kissed my hair. “You must be hungry, eating for two,” he joked. It already seemed like we never had a crisis. We were back to normal in only a few hours. Well, as normal as we’ll ever be. “I will eat something, but sleep is my next priority,” I joked. He chuckled and got up. I tried to stand up, too, but Carlisle had already swept me up into his arms and carried me bridal style down the stairs.

I could already hear voices from the living room and it sounded as if everyone was here. Carlisle walked directly into the kitchen and didn’t bother letting me down. He held me with one arm instead and prepared dinner. It wasn’t much, it were just sandwiches, but made by my beloved husband. He handed the dish to me and sat down with me on his lap on one of the kitchen chairs. “Are you letting me down any time soon?” I laughed. “I’m not planning to do so. I won’t ever let you go again,” he laughed, too, but he was serious with it. “Don’t ever,” I whispered and cuddled against his chest.

He played with my hair while I ate. Surprisingly, no one came to ask or something else. We talked and laughed, cuddled and kissed… I haven’t felt so good in a month! I kissed Carlisle once more and then cuddled to his shoulder. Carlisle stroked my arm and laid one hand on my stomach. “I love you,” he whispered. “I love you, too,” I whispered and kissed his neck.

I looked up and saw Bella and Edward leaning against the door frame and Bella and I exchanged a knowing look. She told me by that that I made the right decision. She smiled and then leaned against Edward, who looked confused but held his wife close.

(Bella’s point of view)

The last weeks were one of the most stressful ones we’ve ever had. I loved Esme like my own mother and seeing her so hurt, hurt me, too. I couldn’t talk to anyone as well and if you know Edward, you’ll know that hiding something from him can be considered a talent. He knew that I was hiding something and he definitely knew that it had something to do with Esme.

Edward was suffering with her. She was his mother figure for so long now and he knew her for nearly his entire existence, so it was hard for him to watch her getting worse by the hour. He tried to help her and would sometimes just sit next to her or holding her so that she felt better again. But that always implied teaming up in a way. Carlisle was miserable as well. Edward would be there for both and still be there for me and Renesmee. I supported him as much as possible.

Rose was of course on Esme’s side and couldn’t understand why Carlisle behaved so “foolishly.” Alice was a bit more unbiased but Esme and Carlisle were like her real parents to her and it was even more difficult for her.

Jasper and Emmett would be rather in the background, but were there when needed. It all reminded me of the time I had been pregnant. The family was splitting because of my decision and that was hard for everyone. Even Esme and Carlisle had struggles, because Esme was on my side.

But I think the peek was reached today.

Esme was trying very much to hide her state but we all knew of course. She was still putting on a brave face and was there for everyone. Especially Carlie played a huge part in cheering up her mother. She was a little sunshine and was laughing and babbling throughout the day. But Carlie had figured out just as fast as Renesmee, that something was wrong. She couldn’t ask with words, but her mind showed how confused she was. Though despite everything, Esme was the most caring and loving mother to her and she didn’t show her often how she really felt.
