"Look ahead two places, but don't make it obvious," I said cautiously. Everyone looked up two places in an obvious manner. They all made disgusted faces, and I tensed until I realized that they were too engaged in their glittering monochromatic lives to see us.
We got through the line and got our free ciders without event, thankfully. Sipping our ciders, our little party walked on until we got to a fork in the road with signs pointing both ways. One way was to apple cider doughnuts, and other fun fall food, and the other way was to a hayride.
"Okay, which way should we go?" I asked. I got a mixed response, so I suggested we split up. Everyone thought that was a good idea, and so we split up. Cosette and the boys wanted food, the boys being teenage boys and Cosette not wanting to go on a hayride for fear of getting her outfit dirty. They headed down to the donuts and the rest of us proceeded to the hayride line.
We got in line and discovered that it was a haunted hayride. The line moved quickly and we made it onto the next ride. We took our seats and the ride began.
We rode into the woods as spooky music began to play. We rode past tacky displays of plastic bag ghosts and styrofoam graves. As we rode on, the ride only seemed to get tackier. It was fun, though, with the four of us laughing and throwing hay at each other.
Suddenly, we went into a dark tunnel, causing all of us, who hadn't been paying attention, to scream. We recovered quickly, and by the time we were through, we were laughing hysterically. The ride was over soon after, and we got off and walked down to the doughnuts to meet up with the others, still laughing like crazy.
When we got there, though the laughing ended because of what we found down there. Cosette and a dancer in yellow seemed to be acting like go betweens to keep Jack from running at Sami, who seemed to have said something off. The four of us ran down at lightning speed, with Katherine running over to pacify Jack, while the rest of tried to figure out what happened. I figured it out in the most concise way possible.
"What happened here?" I asked no one in particular.
"Jack overheard Sami say something to her friends about me and you, so he decided that he should call her out. She denied saying something, so he got really annoyed. That's how we ended up here," Race said matter of factly. I kind of gave Sami a fresh how-could-you glance, and then gave Jack a don't-fight-people look. Sami and her friends collected themselves and walked off, and we decided that we would head back toward the hayride so everyone except Cosette could enjoy a dose of tacky Halloween fun.
