*Two Months Later*

"Has anyone seen my backpack?" I called up the stairs to the others. "Sami will be here in 15 minutes!"

It was September, and a lot had happened over the course of two months. My mom had found out that the "Broadway Borders" existed, and she wasn't mad about them being there. She was totally welcoming and said that we should pass them off as cousins or something and enroll them in the private school that my brother, Sami, and I went to.

Now, we were experiencing first day chaos with nine people trying to get ready for school. Everyone seemed nervous, seeing as they all have very mixed amounts of education, but I was nervous that my "normally homeschooled cousins" would not be able to adjust to school life easily. I was especially worried for Winnie and Eponine, who were both starting in grades without someone else to lean on. Jack, Katherine, Cosette, and Jesse were all going into Senior year with my brother, so they would be with him, and Race was going to be a Sophomore with Sami and I. Winnie would be starting in sixth grade, alone at the lower school, and Eponine would be our only Junior.

"Is everyone ready yet? I can see Sami walking up to the house!" I called, and we all rushed down to meet up with Sami and walk to school. Getting everyone ready in time was easier than expected, largely due to us all having to wear a uniform: Grey skirts, black dress shoes and white polo shirts with the school's logo on them for the girls, and the same for the boys, except they had to wear grey slacks.

We arrived at the school, where we split up, with Sami running down to the lower school to show Winnie where to go. My brother took Eponine and the Seniors where they needed to go, and, when Sami returned, we took Race and headed to the Sophomore  hall.

"My mom pulled some strings so you'll be in classes with either me or Sami all day. All of the upper school kids have lunch together, so that'll be all of us, except for Winnie, of course. You have all of your morning classes with Sami, so I'll see you at lunch and all of us in the upper school can catch up." I rambled like an overprotective mother. Sami shot me a look and took Race to first period.

The morning went quickly, and as soon as the bell rang for lunch, I rushed to the cafeteria to claim a large table for us. The next people to arrive were Sami and Race, followed closely by Eponine. They all sat down around me with Sami across from me, Race next to me, and Eponine next to Sami. A few minutes after, my brother brought the seniors into the cafeteria, and then left to sit with his friends. Jack sat next to Race with Katherine on his other side, and Cosette sat next to Eponine with Jesse sitting in the only other empty seat next to her.

"So, how is everyone's first day going?" I asked like a curious mom. (Wow, I really do act like a mom a lot.) When nobody spoke up, I made an executive decision. "How about we go around the table, starting with Sami. We can all say our thoughts on the day, good or bad."

"My day has been normal. Race is a bit of a comedian, I've learned that from being in classes with him." Sami said with a slight smirk.

"My day hasn't been terrible. High school is simpler than I imagined from your stories," Eponine said, and I realized we may have exaggerated a bit when telling them about school.

"I hate math. I hated it when Papa would teach it, and I still do," Cosette said matter-of-factly. (So far, mixed reviews about the day, but no horror stories. That's good.)

"School is boring. Not like trying to spend time with my brother boring, but close," Jesse declared.

"I like this school. The amount of female leadership is wonderful, and I just found out about the school newspaper, which I'm totally joining," Katherine said with serious enthusiasm.

"I guess it could be worse here. The art program here is pretty cool, and Davey would love the library," Jack said. (So far, no total hate of school. I'll take that as a good sign.)

"I kind of like it here, and, contrary to what Sami makes it sound like, I am not just cracking jokes. I've never had any formal education, and some of the things she things are jokes are actual questions," Race said, getting worked up in Sami's direction. He realized how annoyed he had got, and apologized for getting worked up about it, to which Sami responed with her own apology. They smoothed things over quickly and we all started to listen to Jesse tell a story of some place he'd been. While he was talking, however, my mind drifted back to what had just occurred. I had trouble understanding why Sami would assume that everything was a joke and not a real question, and felt myself take Race's side in an already finished argument, which was odd, seeing as I never took any sides when other people argued.

The bell rang, and we headed to our next classes, which for both me and Race was gym.

"You are about to experience the worst class ever" I said, and we rushed over to the gym for forty minutes of torture.
