Maddison climbed from the car and Antonio watched her carefully. "What appears to be the problem boss?" The person with the dog asks. They're male.
"The car sensed something and I slammed on the brakes too quickly. My partners chest hit the front and it's now badly bruised. He's in a lot of pain." Maddison says in a low, urgent tone that Antonio couldn't hear. The black Rhodesian Ridgeback looked at him sitting in the car and barked.
"What is it girl?" The man asks and the dog barked frantically and strained against the leash.
The man unhooked the leash and the dog raced to the car and scratched at the door urgently, looking behind the car as she did. Antonio slowly opened the door and let's out a yelp of pain when the dog grabs him and drags him from the car. She drags him towards the trees just as a missile flew into the car, the explosion blew everyone off their feet.
Maddison clutched her ears but her hearing was imparted with a high pitched ringing sound. She looked over at Antonio who was curled up around the dog. She soon realized he was shielding her. "Antonio!" She called and shakily crawled over. The dog wiggled away from him and licked his face.
"Antonio? Antonio please." Maddison shook his arm, speaking urgently, her voice shaky and scared.
Antonio groaned and rolled onto his stomach where he propped himself up slightly and coughed up a lump of blood. "Antonio?" Maddison ran a hand through his hair and he shakily turned his head to look at her.
"Please tell me they can help us." He pleaded quietly.
"They can. I promise. They'll help save out home." Maddison says with a sigh of relief and helps Antonio into a sitting position against a tree.
"You gonna be able to walk?" The hooded man asks as he walks over and pats the dog on the head, her tail wagging happily.
"I think so." Antonio grumbles and Maddison helps him up.
He clutches his chest with one hand and drapes his other arm around Maddisons shoulders. "Don't worry. We're close. You two can stay in the bunker and use our drones from there." The man says and leads the way through the trees with Maddison helping Antonio close behind.
Antonios phone rings and he answers it slowly upon seeing then I'D as Ash. "Hello?" He asks cautiously.
"What the hell just happened? Tell me that explosion wasn't you." Crystal and Delance say in unison and Antonio holds the phone away from his ear slightly.
"It wasn't me. Or Maddison." He replies and Maddison looks at him curiously.
"Oh thank god. Where are you? Your trackers are all fuzzy and everywhere." Ash says.
"It was a missile that blew up our car." Antonio says and all is silent.
"A WHAT?!" Everyone yells and Antonio winces.
Maddison takes his phone from him. "Shut it. Go to our home and get it back. We'll go the rest of the city. We have it all sorted. Goodbye." She says bluntly and hangs up, putting the phone in Antonios pocket she pulls out hers and throws it away.
"Why did you do that?" One of the other hooded figures asks. This one being female.
"I'm giving the bad guys a false trail. They'll think I'm injured and leave me alone to die." Maddison shrugs and adjusts her arm around Antonio to a more comfortable position.
"I can see why your the boss." The hooded woman replies.
"Well I'm actually the boss because I know everyone's real name in the Spectral Enigma and my Spectral Enigma name is 639." Maddison says calmly and the hooded woman gasps.
"I thought 639 was dead."
"Well I'm not dead. I just left and faked my own death." Maddison says sharply. A signal to end the conversation of what must be a touchy subject, Antonio realizes.
"It was very believable." Another hooded male grunts and Maddison almost a trips over but Antonio swiftly keeps her upright. "Too believable for your own good." The male grumbles and Maddison stares at him with wide eyes.
"Barbados?" She gasps and the male hurries away.
Maddisons expression turned to one of hurt and Antonio looked away from her. "You guys friends?" He asks.
"We were very close. Closer than close actually. We were told we acted like an old married couple." Maddison laughs with a distant smile and Antonio clenched his eyes shut as a wave of pain and emotion washed through him, almost bringing tears to his eyes.
"What happened?" He asked yet he was afraid of what the answer could be.
"I faked my own death and disappeared. I went to my own funeral. I watched him cry over my grave. I became even more broken. I was only just recovering from my failure when people say began tracking and hunting me down. I couldn't put these people at risk, especially Barbados so I got a professional trick shooter to help me fake my death." Maddison replies. Antonio faltered slightly but Maddison didn't notice.
"Oh." He mutters quietly.
They continue in silence.
The hooded figures come to a halt and Maddison helps Antonio to the front. "Here we are." She says with a smile.
"There's nothing here." Antonio says in confusion.
Maddison laughs and Antonio can't help but smile at the sound so rarely heard. "Oh sweetie. What kind of boss do you have think I am?" She chuckles and Antonio looks down at her fondly.
"The best they could possibly get." He replies and Maddisons cheeks tint pink.
"I'm the kind of boss who keeps top secret places well hidden." She says and puts her hand on a tree trunk.
The ground folds open and a lit set of stairs lead down into the ground.
"Oh guys. You cleaned them." Maddison says and smiles at the hooded people.
"Well of course. You brought them yourself and they cost over 500 million. They deserve to be washed." One of them says and Antonio breaths in so sharply that he begins to choke on air.
"Where did you get that money?" He gasps.
"I run a hit man army. People pay me to use them." Maddison shrugs.
"Who and what are you?" Antonio jokes with a dry throat.
She replies with a wicked smirk. "I'm a Mistress of Evil, whos made of money."
