Antonio Masters
I sit on the edge of my bed. It's 1 am but I just can't fall asleep. Yesterday I got notified that today I'm leaving to go to Washington before heading off to war. I've been in many battles between countries. Those countries call it a war because that's as bad as it can get for them.
But this time I'm going to war. It's as bad as it can get for me. This is no battle.
Russia is fully equipped with god knows what weapons. All I know is they'll be high tech and very deadly. If they're the ones who are declaring war on us then they must have something planned. A secret weapon or just many weapons and people to fight.
There's a light knock on my door and I sigh before slowly standing and walking over. When I open it I'm shocked to see Maddison with tear streaked cheeks. "I don't want you to go." She whispers.
Those 6 words made me want to take back everything. The way she spoke filled me with so much regret and heartbreak. There's so much unsaid between us. I want to tell her how I feel about her, that I love her and will come back no matter what. At this very moment I want to tell her everything but I'm unable to form words.
Only tears.
All I can do is pull her into my chest and kiss her forehead. She wraps her arms around me like a protection shield to keep out all the harm and pain that will no doubt come for me after today. "I want just one more promise Antonio." She says and my heart shatters in a million and one ways.
"Anything for you Mads." I stroke her hair, waiting for the promise that I vow to keep no matter what.
"Promise you'll come back alive. Not in a wooden box, not in a vase, or not at all. Promise me you will come back alive. You're my last sturdy anchor to this world." Her words hit me so hard that I almost gasped.
This promise is one I might not be able to keep. But I have to try for her. I'll do it just for Maddison. "I promise Maddison. I promise you'll see me walk through the front doors alive when this war is finally over."
Maddison relaxes slightly. "Come on. You can help me sleep for a few hours if you want." I suggest, wanting, needing one last night with Maddison beside me before I go.
Maddison nods and walks into my room with me, closing the door behind us. Slowly I climb under the silky covers and Maddison wiggles in beside to nestle into my arms. "I'm gonna miss you. I'm gonna miss this." She says quietly as she runs her fingers lightly over my chest and I laugh softly.
"I'll miss you too Maddison. We're family are we not?" I look at her and she smiles sadly.
"Yes. Family."
With a sad smile on my face I hold Maddison against me, not wanting to let go. I will miss her more than the others. She is like family.
I wish she were my family.
I wish she were my wife.I stand in the drive beside my car, back turned to the front door where the others all stood. When I look back over my shoulder the girls all clung to their guys except for Maddison. She stood alone, staring at me. The promise I made to her bore hard into my mind. Nodding, to afraid to speak, I give them my silent farewell before getting into my car.
Before I drive off I glance back at them through the rear view mirror to see Liam, Alex and Brett stand in with their arms around Maddison. Knowing she may look fine on the outside but breaking down on the inside.
I want to get out of the car and run to her, hold her close and confess my love but I can't. My heart is overthrown by my mind and I drive away from my home and my love and towards blood, fire and war."We thank you for coming." The president says but I barely hear him and only just manage to answer.
"I only came to keep the ones I love safe. Russia isn't to happy with me nor my friends. The leader that lead the attack on LA was the father of a close friend. She's well known to you and I expect her father is known to you too. While I'm gone I want to be sure that they'll be safe." I say seriously.
"You do know who your talking to don't you?" A man in a black suit with black sunglasses on asks in a threatening tone that makes me laugh.
"Whats this girls name who's father lead the attack?" The president asks, ignoring the man in the suit who sends a sidewards glare.
"Maddison Hast." I reply and the whole room does deathly silent.
"Maddison Hast? Her father died years ago. Maddison burnt him alive." The general walks over briskly with the other commanders and chiefs.
"The Russians pulled him out before he died. When me and my mates all went missing around 2-3 weeks ago that was Maddisons father. The day we escaped Maddison stabbed him through the chest. Again the Russians saved him. But a week ago on the day we won back LA I killed him for good. 50 or so bullets with 5 to the head is a little past the Russians ability of saving. Now let's hurry up. What's the plan. I need to get this war ended as soon as possible. I have... family matters to deal with." I say dryly and everyone looks at me in shock.
"The plan is we hit them harder than they hit us. We meet them head on. You'll be up the front with the best we have, leading the way. We trust that you'll hit Russia hard." The general looks at me with narrowed eyes and I smile coyly.
"Let's jut say 'Mother Russia' is gonna be crying for her mummy."
The man in the suit touches his earpiece and looks at me sharply. I watch him out the corner of my eye. Something isn't right. The man takes off his sunglasses and my suspicions are confirmed.
Jack Diablos uncle.
