Leah glances at Chris fleetingly taking in his glum expression before focusing on Daniel. With pursed lips and a slight nod of the head she continues her tale. "I can just picture you striding up to your mates, nudging them with your shoulder or the crook of an elbow, pulling out your watch to show and brag - before dropping in a casual, wanna swap suggestion." Tilting her head skywards closing her eyes, Leah misses Daniel's wince and horror filled look. Or the matching expression on Chris' Face.
A sad sigh leaves her lips. "I can imagine so easily, how you all would be so self assured with your big man statuses, no notice will be taken of the dimness, the lack of any remaining light beams that once danced in the air for your attention. The dullness that replaces the metals surface or the scratches. Those almost missable, so conveniently ignored, quiet vibrations coming from the watches - the overwhelming heartbreaking sadness contained in those quiet vibrations! Nor will it enter your realm of awareness, the disappointment or disdain the Elders observe you with. How some of your pack mates strong and true will avoid you. The nervous excuses to escape being in your company, completely flying over head.
Your pack numbers dwindle as the best and strongest of you leave. Moving to join other packs. Escaping the blight you wear so proudly like a cloak! Too late you realise the weak standing of your remaining pack! Too late you realise your weak standing! No longer are you faster ... your back to average. No longer are you stronger ... in fact your weaker! Never mind facing down armies single handily; during training sessions a pup could beat you. Quickly you check your pockets. Relieved you pull out the watch .... only to find it is the wrong one! Desperately you gather your friends to exchange watches. Taking it in hand ... now you realise all that you missed! The dull scratched appearance! The missing, dancing glimmers! The lack of vibrations! You no longer feel 10" taller, stronger, faster, more powerful. You feel ...... nothing!
You plead and beg for forgiveness but it is much too late. What once was there, and oh so special has long been snubbed out. Howls and growls of dozens of rogue's fill the air, even as fear taints it! As you fall to your knees in despair, you remember your fathers words 'Remember son always handle with care it is very fragile and very special! ..... There's no match, race, fight you could possibly lose whilst you hold this watch!! That's why it must be honoured and protected! Always treated with respect! With this beside you everyday, you will go from strength to strength! Bringing strength from one to all!'
In case you missed it, that watch you treated so poorly symbolises your mate. The bond between two true mates is an incredible amazing miracle! You see mates compliment each other, so when you respect and treat you mate right you really do go from strength to strength - your weaknesses are their strengths and they help you to become a stronger, better version of yourself. You are never alone because they will always stand beside you to comfort and care, encourage and support and provide unconditional love"
Snapping her head down and eyes to Daniels "Is it still just simple fun? No harm done? No wrongs made?" He doesn't reply. He can't. In acknowledgement of the unshed tears of shame in Daniels eyes, Leah shifts her gaze. Sweeping it over the gathered group in the garden, taking note, that a majority of the young lads bare the same unshed tears of shame. Including her mate.
