# Abid's POV
# Date - December 07, 2022---
Her chest rises and falls with every shallow breath, her face pale, her body unnervingly still. She has been unconscious since then.
Dad called the doctor, and the diagnosis felt like a punch to my gut. Depression.
And it’s all because of me.
The doctor warned us to ensure she doesn’t experience any stress and to keep her happy. Otherwise, it could worsen her mental state. His words echoed in my ears, gnawing at my conscience.
Dad bombarded me with questions—Why did she faint? What happened? What did I do to her?
But I had no answers. I had no excuse.
Because deep down, I knew. I knew exactly what I had done.
I was a coward. I couldn’t even face the consequences of my own actions.
But what I didn’t understand was—why did she react like that? Why was she screaming "no" last night, thrashing as if she were fighting off a nightmare?
Dad postponed our reception party. It didn’t matter anymore. Nothing did. She still hadn’t regained consciousness. Rashid Uncle and Aunty visited, concern evident in their eyes, but she remained unmoving, lost in the abyss of unconsciousness.
And now, as the clock strikes 11 PM, fear grips me like never before.
What if she doesn’t wake up?
A soft knock on the door pulls me from my spiraling thoughts.
"The door is open," I say, my voice barely above a whisper.
I sit beside her, holding her cold hand, my thumb absentmindedly tracing small circles over her skin.
Dad walks in. I glance at him briefly before my gaze returns to her unmoving form.
"She’s still not awake?" Dad’s voice is laced with concern.
I shake my head, feeling more defeated than ever.
She is in this state because of me.
"She’ll wake up soon. Don’t worry."
Dad’s reassurance does little to calm the storm within me. I nod, staring at her delicate fingers intertwined with mine.
"Don’t you want to have dinner?"
"No… I’m not hungry."
He sighs, squeezing my shoulder before leaving me alone with my guilt.
I study her face. Her lips are sealed in a thin line, her skin ghostly pale. The warmth she once carried seems to have faded, replaced by a cold emptiness.
I tighten my grip on her hand, willing some of my warmth into her.
"Please wake up, Areena," I murmur, my voice thick with desperation. "I promise I won’t do anything stupid. I won’t ask for anything. Just… please wake up."
