WHEN DRAAL TOLD Toby that Jim gave him signal three-oh-five (I'm okay at the moment, but I have no clue where this is going and these guys are definitely human), Toby didn't expect to look out and find Jim fighting someone wearing a cape in his garage.
So, he did the logical thing: he called Darcy.
"Uh, hey Darcy-- I need you to put your dad on the phone, right now!"
"What? Why?" Darcy questioned her boyfriend bewilderedly.
"JIM'S BEING ATTACKED!"
"What?!!" He heard the sharp whistle of air, thudding feet and shouts of "dad!!" from the other side.
"Detect-"
"JIM'S BEING ATTACKED BY SOMEONE WEARING A CAPE AT HIS HOUSE!"
"What?! Toby, stay on the phone, I'll be right there!"
Toby waited for four, long, excruciating minutes, relaying the smallest swish of a cape to the cop in his ear.
"Toby, he's gone, did you see which way he ran?"
"Uh... t-to your left, right into the woods!"
"Alright, I'm hanging up, you need to come down and give a statement, got it?"
"Yeah, yeah- just find the guy that attacked Jimbo!" Toby hung up before the officer could and ran out of the house, and by the time he got down there, Darcy's dad was gone.
"Toby?" An officer questioned.
"Yeah, that's me!" He said worriedly.
"Alright, so, when did you notice the fight?"
"I radioed Jimbo a few times and he didn't respond, so I looked out the window and I saw him getting pushed into his garage! A-and Jim 'n I've biked the whole town, so I knew that Darcy's dad-"
"Detective Scott?"
"Y-yeah, We've driven past a few times, so by bike, that's about thirty minutes out, and the police were about an hour out, so I figured he'd get here quicker, seeing as he has a car. I figured he'd tell you guys, so you'd eventually show up, and he'd get here first." Toby's words nearly blurred into one, they were so panicked.
"Why were you two up past three?"
"Jim said something about going up the cliff to find something he lost, i-it's about a five hour ride if you bike from here to there and back, no stops included. I was already tired, so he told me to just go back home. We both figured he had just left it on some picnic table, so he should've been back about eight-thirty. I came back and went straight to bed. I haven't been sleeping real well, so I figured I'd take a nap. Once I woke up, I started working on a school project. I had just finished when I heard him biking up. I was wrapping up for bed, so I wanted to say 'night'."
"Why didn't you call?" The officer asked.
"Jim 'n I have an agreement: when his mom's home, walkie-talkies only. The volume is a lot quieter, and Mrs. Lake makes Jim keep the ringer on at full volume so he doesn't miss any of her calls," Toby explains, still slightly panicked. "Is Jim gonna be okay?!" He blurts suddenly, having missed his friend being loaded in by seconds.
The officer smiles. "From what I saw? Yeah, he'll be fine. Might need a stitch or two, but he'll be just fine, kiddo."
