49 STRICKLER 49

[A/N: Bet you didn't see this coming.]

UNLIKE JIM AND his friends, Strickler planned much deeper (though he was quite impressed with what he had seen so far). This included his play to get "Arnold" to Toby's house.

"Walter Strickler, my name's Robin," came a youthful, cheerful tone from behind him. His next words dropped into seriousness, "we need to talk."

"Do we now?" Strickler drawled as he continued to water his plants, completely unsurprised by his entrance. He had heard him ages ago. "And about what exactly, Mr. Grayson?"

Robin froze. "How did you--"

"That little hacker bugging your mentor so much can be quite chatty when... properly motivated." Strickler drawls amusedly, a light sneer seeping into his voice at the end.

Robin snarled, tensing.

Oh my-- did he know their identity? Or perhaps...

"What hacker?"

The second option then. Very well. "You mean you didn't know?" Strickler taunts. 'Please rile easy, please rile easy, please rile--'

"Know what?!"

'Score.' Strickler then drawls pleasantly, "The Batman has had a little birdie whispering in his ear about exactly what will happen if he doesn't comply..."

Robin dropped his defensive stance slightly, eyes widening in shock, "That's why he's radio silent."

"Yes, it is," The man comments offhandedly as he studies a plant on his windowsill. Strickler turns to face Robin, moving in close, placing two fingers under his chin, lifting it to face him better. "You've been so focused on the fish that you haven't considered the shark." He sneers before turning away to walk back to his window, hands clasped behind his back. "Though, then again, where could you find sharks in a sleepy town like this?" He innocently threw over his shoulder.

There was a beat of silence before a whoosh.

Strickler smirked.

All was going according to plan...
