"SO..."

"So..." Eli parrots back.

Once again, they were standing awkwardly on Jim's front lawn, both avoiding the other's gaze, Eli fixing his glasses for no reason other than something to do, Steve rubbing the back of his neck.

"Our date was wrecked." Steve eventually manages, completely blunt.

Eli let out an awkward laugh. "Yeah..! I...it kind of was..! W-wasn't it..?"

Now both were rubbing the backs of their necks.

"Um... so... the Taco truck should only be a block away tonight, and I always keep a towel in my bag in case of goblins..." He trailed off, his blush growing by the moment, refusing to meet eyes with him. "...Picnic..?"

"...O-okay..."

This time, when they climbed on the Vespa, Eli wrapped his arms around Steve tightly, cheek and nose pressing into his back, his nose cold, cheeks burning hot. Steve had to stop his own cheeks from meeting that temperature.

Steve was right, El Guerito was on the next block, and the owner gave them plenty of food and drink when told it was a picnic, even telling them about his first picnic, and how he was glad they weren't making his mistake of going alone, completely cheerful. The two were a bit awkward, but it was funny to hear how a raccoon attacked him and stole all his food (though they were sure that there were some embellishments to make it funnier (part of them doubted it)).

And then it was now, the present, both walking into the forest, toward the glade they'd found some months ago with the other Trollhunters when coming up with an evacuation plan for Trollmarket (they had yet to get Enrique, and there was no way in hell they weren't going to calculate in the risk that Gunmar would leave his armies behind as if they were a complimentary shampoo bottle at a hotel). In any case, they laid out a blanket across one of the stone platforms and plopped down with their tacos and soda, having a surprisingly nice evening, a sharp contrast to the original evening's heading. They talked and chatted, laughed until they cried and occasionally fell into comfortable silences, munching on their tacos in between. In all... it was a good evening...

"So... what are we?" Steve asked suddenly during a long bout of silence on the walk back to the Vespa. "I-I mean-- a-are we dating, are we not..? W-what are we?"

Eli pauses, breath catching in his threat. "I... hadn't really thought about it," He admits, "I mean, we went on a date and it went well, so does that mean we're dating?"

Steve shrugged, looking semi helpless. "I... I guess..?"

Eli looked uncomfortable and skeptical. "...How about we sleep on it? Studies have shown that it helps you make decisions better and it's been a long day-- we're probably not in the right mindset to make a choice like this..."

Steve nearly beamed. This is what he loved about Eli-- whoah. Wait. Loved? I-- I mean... I guess that's true, Steve hadn't ever thought about it, to be honest... Steve's cheeks flared red. "Okay-- yeah, that sounds like a good choice," He rushes. "L-Lets do that."

Eli frowns. "Steve, if you want to choose now--"

"No, no! I-- it wasn't that, I-- n-never mind-- l-lets just go..." Steve embarrassedly hiked up to the Vespa with renewed speed, a confused Eli lagging behind by a couple feet.

"...I'd like to be your boyfriend..." Eli mumbles into Steve's back as he climbed on, wrapping his arms around him.

Steve froze, the air in his lungs seeming to disappear, leaving something heavier behind. He looks behind him in shock, his face bright red, eyes wide. "R-r-really?!"

Eli simply nodded, face just as red.

...Steve had to stop himself from kissing Eli's cheek. Or forehead. Or nose. Or anywhere, really. "I... I want you to be my boyfriend, too..."

Eli tucked his face further into Steve's back, hiding his blush. "...I guess it's official then... we're boyfriends..."

Steve internally declared that he'd have to find a way to get Eli to stop being so cute, or else his boyfriend was going to end up being interrupted by Steve kissing the ever living daylights out of him every three seconds. Seriously! How was he supposed to function when Eli was so adorable?! Instead, he whipped around, effectively hiding his blush.

Both teens slept with the biggest grins that night...
