HARRY’S POV

Did she say… abuse? You look at how happy and excited she is about everything, you would have never thought she had been through so much. I don’t know the whole story, all I know is her sister was abused and it is killing her. We got the turtle food and drove back to her apartment, but she still looked really shaken up.

“Audrey, you know you can talk to me,” I said, placing a hand on her shoulder as we stood outside her door.

“I know, I just,” She struggled. “Come inside.” She finished, opening the door and walking in.

“What do you want to drink?” She asked, walking into the kitchen as I sat down on the couch, leaning forward.

“Just water, please,” I said.

“You don’t want just water,” She giggled. “I have any kind of soda you would imagine.”

“Then I’ll have root beer please,” I said.

She walked in holding two root beers and two colored cups with ice in them. “I know you want me to explain this,” She started, shaking a little.

“If it hurts you don’t have to, you don’t deserve to hurt,” I said, comforting her as she sat down on the couch next to me.

She shook her head, looking down. “You have to find out somehow.” I nodded, pulling her into my arms.

“Whenever you’re comfortable,” I said, kissing the top of her head.

“Now. Right now,” She said, sitting up and leaning against the other end of the couch.

“When I was four, my parents decided they wanted another child. Being the happy four year old I was, I was excited. I loved my parents. We were this picture perfect family that everyone loved, and another child is just what we needed.

“So, whatever, mum got pregnant and soon enough Bailey was born. She was the most adorable little girl in the whole world, but when she was five and I was nine, things changed around the house. Mum and dad started fighting a lot, more than most families. I don’t think mum saw it, but I saw dad looking at Bailey different than he did before. Bailey became this lost, distant five year old. She never laughed, she never cried, and she never let you touch her,” She explained. I nodded my head, running a hand down her back.

“One day, when I was sixteen and she was twelve, I was so fed up. Mum and dad were divorced and it was our weekend at dads. Bailey was always this happy, bubbly teenager at school, but when she got home she never said a word, ever. Except for when dad wasn’t around. She was two different people, I swear.

“One day I was pulling into the driveway when I heard screaming. It wasn’t usually screaming, there were usually no lights on and dad was watching TV and Bailey was in her room. I walked inside and dad was…” She trailed off, wincing slightly.

“Audrey you don’t have to,”

“Yes, I do,” She said, shaking her head and running a hand through her hair.

“He was throwing things at her. First small things, you know, tissue boxes, pillows, all that. We were both yelling at him to stop, and he picked up the end table and threw it at her. He threw the lamp at her head, and it hit her so hard she got severe brain damage. She blacked out, and she doesn’t remember it at all. We have no way of knowing if there was more than it, because my dad killed himself right in front of me and Bailey doesn’t remember we even had a dad.” She finished, a tear rolling down her cheek. I grabbed the back of her head and pulled her close to me, her face buried in my chest.
