Mikky
Humans are so easy to fool. Pathetic even.
They think I'm a fool because I'm a woman?
You shouldn't. I'm just as dangerous as any man.
I sat back down in the driver's seat of the carriage, and pulled the rein getting the horses to take a left off the main road. I had it drive till the moon rose up in the sky before pulling into a small clearing. I then hopped out and made my way around to the back.
The cage was half covered by the original driver's cape that was caught when I thew him off. I could see a bit of orange, and part of a fluffy tail.
I pushed aside the cape and paused as I saw the fox curled up in the corner of the cage, farthest away from me. It watched me with scared scarlet eyes.
I unlocked the cage cautiously. I didn't want the poor thing to run out. It could be hurt.
"Hey there. I'm not going to hurt you. Did those men hurt you in any way?" I asked in the calmest, nicest voice I could muster. I pulled my mask down and smiled softly. "I know I look scary, but I'm really not, I promise."
The small fox got up and started towards me and I opened the cage for it. It was limping. Blood dripped down its back leg. A perfectly circular wound.
I growled. "They shot you with an arrow?" The fox stepped back a bit and I frowned. "I'm sorry. I'm upset with the humans."
The fox looked at me curiously. I smiled and leaned by head down and wiggled my black cat ears a bit. "I'm a bit of an animal myself." I raised my head again and the fox came closer. I grabbed the guard's cape and held it in my arms. The fox came into my arms and I wrapped the cape around it as to keep anything from getting into the wound. I lifted it carefully before walking to the front of the cart where I used my free hand to tap one of the horses on the rear, causing it to run forward. The other horses joined in and ran away.
I held the fox in two arms now as it was much easier to do so, and started walking into the forest. I carefully stepped over logs, and memorized where all the small holes were.
A small wooden cabin came into view and I stepped in and unlocked the door. The Cabin was a couple miles away from the roads, so no one could see it with its lights on.
I set the fox on the small kitchen table, that for some reason had two chairs, even though it was obvious I lived alone. The cabin had three rooms, but they were all small. The home wasn't meant for more than one person.
The first room which they entered into upon coming into the house was the parlor, which had two bookshelves mirroring each other on opposite walls. A wooden couch covered in bear pelts covered it, and a fireplace was on its other side.
The next room was the kitchen and dining room, complete with everything a kitchen would need in an old timely land. A furnace, counters, shelves and cubards, and opposite that was the small table and two chairs.
The last room was the small bedroom. The bed frame was wooden, but the bed itself looked soft enough. It was also covered in animal pelts as well as blankets that were folded at the foot of the bed.
Why again did I have a second chair? Whatever.
I went through my cubards and searched for my medical kit. When I found it I set it on the table beside the fox. It was filled mostly with bandages, but I grabbed a few healing herbs before I went back over. I crushed the herbs into a paste in a bowl, then used water and a small cloth to clean the wound in the fox's leg.
It whimpered, and shook a bit, but didn't try to pull away like I had expected.
"You must know I'm trying to help you." I smiled before I took a bit of the herb paste on a finger and as gently as I could, applied it to the wound. I then wrapped up the fox's leg and pet it softly on the head. "All done little guy." I swear it glared at me. "Girl?" It closed it's eyes to rest.
I sat in the chair beside it and smiled a bit as I continued to pet it. It's fur was so soft I was almost jealous of it. After a few minutes I got up and started preparing my dinner which was long overdue.
While I was cooking it, I heard a bit of a ruckus and when I turned to look the fox was gone. I looked at my feet and sighed in relief finding it sitting there waiting for me to finish.
"I'm making enough for you, don't worry." I rolled my eyes and continued to cook. I moved back over to the table and set a plate down. There was venison I had hunted earlier today, and some potatoes I had stolen as well.
I picked the fox up and set her on my lap as I grabbed my fork and knife. I cut up the venison and pushed a decent size portion of it to the side that the fox could reach and it happily ate it up.
By the time we were done it had to be around mid night. I blew out the candle and made my way to my bed, the fox following at my feet happily. I sat on the bed and it sat down in front of me giving me a cute little stare.
I crossed my arms and glared before rolling my eyes and lifting it up again and setting it on the bed. I stood up and changed into my undergarments, then pulled a long shirt over my head. I paused looking at the mirror on top of my dresser and frowned at the shirt.
My brother's.
I tore my eyes from the mirror and crawled into bed. Just as I was about to pull the blankets up to my chin, the fox cuddled up against my chest, squirming its way under my arm so it could stare at me with its dark red eyes.
"What?" I asked. "Are you going to keep me company?"
I couldn't tell if the fox nodded but I found my eyes heavy from rescuing the little thing, and I fell asleep.
