The Clever Cat.
That's what they called the daring thief that could never be arrested, and rarely ever caught in the act.
A thief.
A procurer of goods.
A liar.
A cheat.
A beast.
The black tail swayed behind her as she watched from above. Hiding just under the shadow of the tree whilst sitting on the roof of one of the buildings in the medium sized village.
The stall owner? Too poor.
The woman walking has a big purse? Too many guards checking her out.
A left Amber eye and a right white eye stopped on a cart that held a cage on the back. It was a small cage, but there was something in it. Something orange?
How dare these humans trap an animal! The thief thought. She looked around for a way down that wouldn't alert everyone until she was out of harms way. Finding none she sighed.
She hopped into the tree, swinging under a branch before swinging up to another that she landed on. Her tail wrapping around the branch to keep her even more steady.
She wore a black outfit. A black sleeveless leather vest with a hood. Tribal tattoos covered her arms and one spread up her neck and wrapped around her right eye. A knife belt was slung over her shoulder, and two swords hung from the belt on her hips along with a satchel and several pouches. She had leather boots, finger-less leather gloves, a mask over her mouth and nose, and buckles over her shins, possibly holding the boots on. She had long black hair that was tied in a pony tail, and her black cat ears stood up on her head. The inside of the ears was a bright white.
The darkness hid the thief from view. No one could see her. No one would ever find her.
The leaves rustled as she hopped from branch to branch, but the people below thought nothing of it. The forest was filled with squirrels and other animals.
The guards protected the cart, and the animal inside. What was so special about the little thing inside? Was it rare?
Could she sell it to someone else.
The thief waited till they were in the forest, hiding in the shadows. She whistled behind them, before darting ahead to hang down by her tail and ankles to grab the keys off one of the guards pockets.
She smiled finding them before she pulled herself back up.
The guards looked around curiously.
"Who was that?" He asked as he glared at the other guards.
"Not me." Said one of them.
"Keep an eye out. There's a master thief in this region." Said another guard.
"A master thief? Well if you see this thief, then kill them." Said another. "If they get the cargo we're screwed. The boss will not like it."
"We're risking our ass and for what? We only get paid a few hundred gold!" shouted another.
"Traveling from one Realm to another is dangerous. The Raiders and Thieves here are plentiful." The first guard sighed.
"As are the Spirits and Deities whom protect the borders."
The thief rolled her eyes. Spirits and Deities. They were just demons who were powerful enough to make humans believe they were gods.
The thief counted the guards. Eight. Nine counting the driver.
Too much to fight in a forced attack.
She smiled and clipped the keys to her belt before gripping a smoke bomb. She casually smirked and let it slip from her hands. It landed in the cart before exploding, causing the guards to stumble back coughing.
The girl jumped down, on top of the cage before knocking the driver out of the cart. She drew her swords just as the other men realized they were being robbed. Her swords clashed against two guards who both swung at the same time.
She dragged her swords around on their blades, disarming them before she kicked the one on the right in the chest, throwing him back. Her tail caught the sword of the one on the left before it tossed the sword into the brush. The man on the left diving after it.
The other six guards were now completely focused on her. Two of them drew crossbows and fired, but this girl was too fast. Her swords knocked the bolts out of their intended path before she took her stance, one sword over her head, and the other pointed at the two using crossbows.
"That's the Master Thief! The one who stole The Blind Seer's Eye!" Shouted one of the guards.
The thief bowed respectively as she was introduced. The Two guards in front of the cart moved to the sides of the cart and swung at her. She merely stepped forward and jumped, planting both her feet in the chest of one of the two cross bow men.
She then slashed the legs of the other, knocking him to the ground. Her sword didn't cut deep enough to sever the leg, but deep enough to prevent him from attacking again.
The last four guards now encircled her. And she gripped her two swords tightly before blocking one swing, then the next, before rolling forward between the legs of the next one. As she did, she pushed off the ground with her hands and kicked him in the back, throwing him into the first one who stuck at her. She then rolled forward again and grabbed the crossbow, her swords on the ground beside her.
She fired the bolt into the knee of the fourth man, causing him to collapse with a yell of pain.
The other three regained their senses and attacked her. She caused the first to falter when she threw her crossbow at one giving her enough time to pick her swords up again and defend herself.
She blocked a blow, delivered another. Two struck at the same time, so she ducked, causing them to strike each other. She rose up and slashed the last across the chest, throwing him back.
The examined the men writhing in pain on the ground. None were fatal wounds. They would be fine.
She climbed back into the cart and whipped the reins, the horses taking off. She stood up and bowed to the humans she had just robbed.
