I woke to warmth. More than I was used to.
And biting. Playful biting.
I opened one eye, finding the fox still there, but she was gnawing on my tail. I had it try to tug away, but she pulled back. Not enough to hurt, no where near. She was just being playful.
"That's a part of my body you know." I called, getting the fox to raise its head and look at me. It was laying beside me, no longer under my arm. But she had pulled my tail up over my leg so she could play with it in front of me.
"How's your leg?" I asked.
It turned so its bandaged leg was in front of me.
"I'll have to change the bandage." I said as I sat up. "And you slobbered all over my tail so now I need a bath."
She growled at me and I rolled my eyes and got up, grabbing a pair of cotton pants and a white blouse, as well as more undergarments.
The fox hopped off the bed easily, and followed me into the kitchen.
I paused seeing a note on the table. I hadn't put it there last night had I?
I set my things down beside it and picked it up to read it.
Akeno
Akeno? Was that a name?
I looked down at the fox. "Are you Akeno?" I asked.
The fox yipped at me, her tail swaying on the floor behind her.
"I take that as a yes. You're supposed to protect my house from strangers coming in. What if I was killed in my sleep?" I glared.
It yipped again before hopping on the chair, then hopping onto the table and sitting in front of me. "Anyways, I'll start breakfast. Then change your bandages." I said as I turned and started cracking eggs in a pan.
When I turned around after the eggs were cooked and in a plate, Akeno was holding the bandage in her mouth.
I blinked. "Don't eat it?" I questioned before setting the plate of eggs beside her, then I took the bandage out of her mouth. There was a small blood stain in it, but what really surprised me, was the wound on the fox's leg was completely gone.
"I know the herbs make you heal faster, but jeez." I scratched the back of my head.
Akeno was nibbling at one of the eggs. "If you want it you get one okay? I'm bigger than you. I'll cook come meat too." I threw out the bandage then went back to finishing up. I returned with a plate of bacon, and Akeno laying beside the plate.
She had ate one egg alright.
But she also ate half of another.
I glared. "Half and Half?" I questioned. Akeno just watched me as if waiting for me to punish her. Instead I pet the top of her head and set the second plate down before separating the bacon in half. "Half and half." I smiled.
The fox hopped up and started eating her half as I finished the eggs and bacon.
When we finished I put the plates away and grabbed my clothes before heading outside, Akeno following behind me happily.
I made my way around the back of the house, following the small dirt path in my bare feet. We came to a brook and I set my clothes down on a rock before undressing, throwing my dirty clothes in a pile beside the clean ones. I wasn't worried about anyone stopping by, I was the only one who knew of this place, and I made sure of it.
My house was built closest to one of the pools the brook made. It was about three feet deep in the middle, and perfect for a bath. The floor of the brook wasn't rocky in the middle, but sandy. As I made my way over to my spot, Akeno hopped from rock to rock, following me. I sunk into the water, sitting on a flat rock I had come to enjoy and let out a content purr.
