Chapter 6- The Dancer and Food

Chapter 6

Sophie's Pov. 

I rush into the dance studio with my pointe shoes already tied. My hair was in a tight bun on top of my head and I had my long sleeved black leotard on with my light pinks tights underneath. I look around to see that most girls were just finishing up with their stretching. The dance instructor turned towards the radio to start up the warm-up music and I take a place on one of the bars. 

"First position. Sophie makes sure to get here earlier next time." He calls out in front of the whole class and I nod my head before getting into first-position. 

When he starts the music I make sure to keep my toes pointed when brushing against the surface of the floor, my back arched and chin held high. The trick to remaining weightless was to make sure that you squeezed every muscle in your body to remain upright. 

"Good. Make sure to straighten your back Jessica" He says to one of the girls and her back goes from being slightly hunched to being as straight as a ruler. 

He continues to make his way to each dancer to observe our technique. when he gets to me, he nods his head in approval and then moves on to the next dancer. I hear the dancer in front of my scoff. 

I'm not sure what she was so mad about. If she wanted to improve on her own technique she should focus on herself instead of on me. 

But that was just my opinion. 

"Okay girls, great. Please move into the second act of the dance and remember the notes that I told you all. Sophie, I want to see your character really come to life in this scene." he says. I nod my head quickly and we all get into position. In the second act, Clara enters the Land of Sweets with the prince. The main character who played the prince whose name was Liam, came up to me to start off the scene. We first went through the seen marking it in our heads and then went through the whole scene again going full out. By the end of the rehearsal, I was left panting and gulping down water as if I'd never seen it before. 

"Good work Sophie. Take 10 minutes to regroup and then we will run the ending scene of Act one running into Act two. By the end of this week, I want us to be able to run the whole show without dying out towards the end." I nod my head along with the rest of the dancers and make my way out of the room. We had a vending machine towards the front of the dance place and I make my way over, ready to get a Hershey's bar when I hear two girls snickering to my right. 

Here we go again.

"You should probably watch your wait. A piece of celery would be more your speed, don't you think?" Karen and another girl who I couldn't remember smirked at me. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes and simply paid for the chocolate bar, watching it drop to the bottom before picking it up. 

"Well, I highly doubt that considering that he already cast me as the main lead some months ago. Let it go, you won't ever have my spot." I state boldly. 

"Oh don't you worry honey. Just because you got the main lead as Clara, doesn't mean that you will land the main lead to Swan Lake." She snares. We were doing Swan Lake at the end of the year and I had had butterflies in my stomach just thinking about that audition. I choose to ignore her comment and I find a private corner to snack on my chocolate bar.
