Chapter 23

Sophie's Pov. 

I wake up feeling as if nothing could break my happiness. I got ready while singing to myself and dancing. I reach up to see that I had received two text messages from Eli. 

Eli: I officially have the song Take On Me stuck in my head thanks to you.

Eli: Be glad that I still like you ;)

I let out a laugh. Last night when he drove me home, I had decided to play that song on repeat. He had watched me do a little dance and belt the song out each time. 

I will say though, the guy had a lot of patience. I'll give him that one. 

Me: The song is Iconic, deal with it. 😜

I place my phone down to finish getting ready. 

"Sophie!" I hear my mom yell and I almost let out a yelp. 

"Coming!" I grab my backpack and dance bag and make my way downstairs. 

When I get downstairs I see that my mom has a row of invitations set out. My birthday was coming up pretty soon and I guess she took it upon herself to write some birthday invitations for the party. 

"I wanted for you to look these over and to see if you wanted to change anything on the guest list." She says. 

"Sure, I'll look it over when I get home from rehearsal." I say and give her a kiss on the cheek. Dad looks at the list and raises his eyebrow at mom.

"How many people are we having over here?" He asks and mom waves her hand at him. 

"Bromley, she's turning 18. She deserves to have an elaborate party thrown for her." My mom says. While I did want to throw a huge party to celebrate, I also was fine with just keeping it smaller in size. 

What I also wanted was to spend some time with Eli. 

"Alright then. I just hope that we're not staying at her party. I would hate to intrude." Dad says and I smile at him. We all knew that he didn't like to spend his time around teenagers. My mom gives a slightly disappointed look but nods her head. 

"Yeah of course. I'll just have to spend time with the birthday girl the day before the party." I was looking forward to this party. I remember when Megan turned 18. We all had been invited to stay at a fancy hotel for the night and get completely drunk. Lacey even had a small drink herself despite being the designated driver. 

"Alright, I will see you guys later." I hug them both goodbye and make my way to the driveway. 

What I didn't expect to see was a smiling Derek waving at me. I let out a laugh and walk to his car. 

"Surprise!" He yells out. 

"Thanks for the ride. What's the occasion?" I ask and buckle my seatbelt. 

"Since this is your birthday week and your birthday is in 3 days, I wanted to treat you like the princess that you are and give you a ride to school." He says. 

"Aw thank you. You're friendship goals." 

"Yes, I bet Megan and Lacey are quaking in their boots." He says smugly. 

"I wouldn't go as far as to say that, but you are pretty high up there," I say with a smirk. 

And with that, we pull off to school.
