When I Come Back

Warning Tone

Astrid

   Hiccup stood a full head and shoulders above Snotlout and a full head above me.

"Look at the H man sailing in five years late with a whole new look!" exclaims Tuffnut.

"So H, how was the academy?" Ruff joins.

"It was amazing!" he exclaims, "There were different heirs and leaders from all over! I would've never though they would be so nice and welcoming!" 

"Ha! You sure you were sent to leader camp and not looser camp!" scoffs Snotlout.

"Were they really all that nice?" Fishlegs asks.

"Yeah. For the most part." Hiccup said, while rubbing the back of his neck, "There were a few who were full of themselves, but you just gotta learn how to deal with them. "

"As in?" I join in for the first time.

   He looked over at me, almost surprised that I even spoke. Then smirked, "Just a little bit of brain power." 

"Brain power?" Snotlout echoes. 

   Hiccup started walking towards the village, the rest of us following him.

"Don't worry Snoutlout. I don't expect you to understand." Hiccup comments, earning a chuckle from the rest of us. 

"Nice one!" I whisper. 

   Once in the center of the village, we spot the chief. Shouting orders and checking lists, he runs the bustling island. 

"Son!" he stops, "I've missed you."  

   He pulls Hiccup into a big hug, squeezing him tightly. 

"My bruised ribs and I have missed you too."

"Good!" the cheif booms, "I have a few things I'd like you to help with from now on." 

"All in due time." Hiccup responds, before mounting Toothless and taking to the sky. 

   The rest of us race to our dragons, following suit.

   We were all sitting at a table in the Great Hall, eating our much deserved dinner. 

   It was social hour on Berk. Everyone reports to the Great Hall for dinner when the sun sets. Leaving their jobs for until the next morning ad taking the first and last break of the day. This was the time the entire island came together to eat and socialize. Catching up with the daily events of family and friends. 

   Soon the island will rest and the Gang will go on one last patrol before turning in for the day.

"Ok Gang." Hiccup says, taking charge, "when we're all finished eating we'll patrol the island, let everyone settle in, and go on one last patrol before heading to bed. Understood?"

I almost forgot how much I missed this.

"Astrid?" 

"Hm?" I saw looking up from my plate to Hiccup. Who was looking at me a bit concerned. 

"You've been kinda out of it all day." he starts, "I know you've had to take on a lot of my chores. So, why don't you stay back and go to bed early. Get a good nights rest?"

"What!?" I exclaim, "No way! I'm coming with you!"

"Astrid , when I left I put a lot of stress on you." he continues. 

"I'm going with!" this wasn't something I was going to back down from. 

"Astrid. Please?" Hiccup asks, using a sort of warning tone, I've never herd from him before. 

   I just hold his gaze. 

"At least stay back for the first patrol." he suggests, "I'll come and get you before we leave for the second patrol." 

This sounds promising...

"How do I know you won't just leave me?"  I ask, trying to be difficult. 

   He sighs, "If you want, you can stay back in my hut. I was planning on getting some unpacking done, so I will have returned. You'd know when we come back."

"How about I go to the first patrol and stay back for the second?" I push. 

"Are you punishing me?" he asks. 

   I laugh. 

"All right you too. Enough." Snotlout butts in," We're all done so let's get going. I get tired after I eat."
