Based off the following prompt; "Wait, I'm not the only freshman in the class?"
Today was Madison Montgomery's first day of college, and to say she was nervous was a huge understatement. She had been waiting for this day since the start of high school, but now that the day had finally arrived, her nerves were completely shot and she was filled with massive amounts of anxiety. Since she had such perfect test scores the last year she took one of the statewide tests, she was offered the opportunity to participate in senior level classes her first year, and being the overachiever everyone knew she was, she accepted the offer and spent the whole summer preparing herself for potential assignments she would receive over the course of all of her higher level classes. She woke up extra early and dressed in her best clothes, which was a pleated skirt and black blouse paired with her trusty white Toms. She kept organizing and reorganizing her binders and folders over and over again, making sure that everything was perfect before she left for her first class of the day, which was English. When the time came, she checked that she had everything that she needed once again, and then she hurried to her class, arriving exactly 10 minutes before the class was to begin, to prepare herself more before she faced her professor.
"Wow, I didn't expect anyone else to be here as early as I am." She heard a voice come from her seat in the second row of the classroom. She looked up at the voice, and her cheeks immediately flushed when she saw the beautiful girl standing in the doorway. She was dressed in a simple collared black dress and calf high boots, a few books being in her possession, one being a large blue sketchbook. She walked to where she was sitting and claimed the spot next to her, opening a patterned agenda and copying down the assignments neatly that had already been scratched across the board in a rushed hand. She mimicked her actions, although her writing was not as gorgeous as the brunette girl's next to her, but it sufficed and got the job done.
"Are you a senior?" She blurted out, and she kicked herself at such a question. The girl next to her laughed softly, and turned to look at her, shutting the agenda in front of her and placing it underneath the blue sketchbook.
"No, I'm a freshman. Top of my class all four years of high school and I got offered the chance to participate in senior level classes to be eligible to graduate my junior year of college." She tucked a piece of hair behind her ear as she tried to bite back a smile at such a big achievement.
"Wait, I'm not the only freshman in this class??" She asked in shock as she looked at the stranger, who wore a quizzical expression herself. She turned back towards the board, and crossed her legs as the room began to fill up with their fellow peers, who were all dressed in various different styles. She suddenly felt extremely overdressed in her outfit of choice, and she shrunk down in her seat the more the room began to become crowded.
"I guess not." The girl said from beside her, giving her an easygoing smile as the professor of the class finally made his appearance. He was a tall man, and he looked too tired to be teaching a college based class, but she was polite whenever he asked her any type of questions or offered her the chance to share her opinions on the lengthy list of books that they would be reading and writing papers on throughout the course of the year. When class was dismissed, she placed her books carefully back into her bag and waited for the majority of the other students to leave before she attempted to leave herself, but a hand on her wrist stopped her. She turned her head and saw the tall girl standing next to her, her smaller wrist in her grasp. Once she got her attention, she dropped her hand and readjusted her books before speaking.
"Uh, since we're the only two freshman in this class, I was thinking we should stick together. We could write our papers together and just help each other out with things we might struggle with. We're both smart, yes, but everyone needs a study buddy and a friend to help keep them motivated." Her eyes lit up as she fidgeted in front of her, hoping for a positive reply. The blonde had never met anyone as smart as her, so this was new territory to her. Plus, she had never needed another person's help for anything before, and she didn't think she ever would. She wanted to explain that to the nice girl standing with a hopeful expression in front of her, but she couldn't find the heart to, so she found herself nodding and a smile spreading across her own face, which had heated up even more since talking to her.
"What's the worst thing that could happen? Sure, why the hell not? Our first session can be at the university library, so we have access to books in case we need them." She readjusted the strap of her bag, and grabbed a single piece of paper and a sharpie, writing her number down on the paper before handing it to the girl, whose fingers brushed against her own as she took the paper from her extended hand.
"Madison huh? That's a cute name. I'm Zoe by the way. I look forward to seeing you again." She slipped the paper into the cover of the copy of Wuthering Heights she had on top of the agenda and sketchbook and breezed out the door, giving her one last smile before disappearing from her line of vision. She bit her tongue to avoid smiling yet again, but it was useless. She felt a smile on her lips as she exited the classroom, not knowing just how much the tall, bright eyed brunette would change her life for the better.
