Another installment of Airplanes, which will be the last part xo
It had been about a month since Zoe broke up with her longtime boyfriend James, who she hadn't spoken to since the event. She should have expected it, but she was still hurt that she had lost one of her best friends to something so silly. Madison had been keeping her company though, and today was the day that they were going to finally see each other in months. It had been a long time coming and she was giddy but also very nervous, especially since the blonde knew the feelings she had for her. She was dressed in her favorite dress, and her knee was bouncing up and down in anticipation as she sat in one of the many airplane seats to wait for her. A bouquet of flowers were laid on the seat next to her and there was also a box, a late birthday present for her since she wasn't with her in person when she turned 21.
"Flight 275 is now unloading, I repeat Flight 275 is now unloading. Thank you." The voice disappeared from the loudspeaker and she picked up the flowers and box as passengers began to exit from the plane, scattering off in different areas of the expansive airport. She looked at the door, patiently waiting for the petite blonde to make an appearance, and when she did, she felt her heart began to beat faster instead of her chest. When they made eye contact, they shared a bright smile and began to walk towards each other, dodging people in an attempt to finally be standing in front of one another. She handed her the flowers and enveloped her into a tight hug, asking her how her flight was to make small talk. They walked arm and arm through the airport, and once they got outside, Madison softly touched her arm to stop her.
"I'm flattered that you brought me flowers to show that you like me, but is there some type of catch?" She didn't ask the question in a rude way, more like a curious way, but she still felt felt her chest sting at the question. They walked to her rental car in silence and she shrugged her shoulders, signifying that she didn't know why she had did what she did when she knew good and well why she had did what she did. They got into the car and pulled out of the airport parking lot quickly, not speaking again until they had reached the small apartment her parents were renting out for her during the blonde's short stay. Zoe carried her bags inside the house and placed them by the door, going to pour them some glasses of wine as a way to relax themselves. Once Madison had settled in, she decided to ask her the question she had been dying to ask her every since she had told her of the feelings she had for her.
"Do you uh..?" She couldn't finish the rest of the question, but the blonde seemed to know what she meant by the way she put her empty cup on the cupholder on the table in front of the couch and placed her hand over hers innocently.
"Of course I do. But I feel like we should get to know each other better first before we decide to jump right into bed together." Her tone was firm but her eyes were questioning and maybe it was just the three glasses of wine she had consumed, but she really wanted to feel her lips against hers. She shook the thoughts from her head and suggested a game to play, to which she agreed to.
"What's the dumbest reason why you've fought with someone?" She asked, her eyebrow raised in anticipation. She bit her lip as she wracked through memories in her brain that could suit the question best, but she shrugged her shoulders, stating that she never really fought with anyone before.
"When did you have your first kiss?" Zoe asked quietly, her eyes looking anywhere but at the blonde next to her. She heard her chuckle under her breath and she responded with the ripe age of 12, at summer camp to be exact. More questions were thrown out and more wine was consumed on both parts and by the time the game had concluded, they were practically on one another's laps. They looked at each other, and it was like time itself stopped just for them to share this moment together. Before they knew it, they were both leaning in and their lips collided passionately, and it was everything and more that she had dreamed of. Madison tangled her fingers into the brunette's long brown hair and she pushed against hers just a little closer, and her whole body hummed at their close proximity. When they parted, they smiled at each other and spent the rest of the night cuddled up to one another, talking about everything and nothing all at once, which was more than enough to make both of them content.
The next week and a half went by quickly, and before both of them knew it, Madison had to return home. The drive to the airport was silent, and the brunette willed herself not to cry at the loss of the girl she cared so much about. When she pulled into the crowded parking lot, they sat together in the car a long time, looking everywhere but at one another.
"I don't want you to go." She whispered tearfully, her eyes still trained out the window. The blonde looked over at the heartbroken girl in the driver seat, and she grabbed her hand to comfort herself more than her.
"Marry me then. I don't care how long it takes to make you my wife, but spending this week and the months I have with you have made me realize the love I have for you, and how much it hurts to be away from you. I love you Zoe and I really hope that you'll marry me." She was smiling with tears in her own eyes as she retrieved the black box she had been saving in the jacket of her pocket, and she held it towards her, opening the lid to reveal a beautiful diamond encrusted engagement ring. Zoe's eyes went wide and she began to cry harder as she nodded her head vigorously, holding out her hand so that the blonde could slip the ring onto her nimble finger. She leaned over the console and kissed her deeply, her hands on either side of her face. When they pulled away, they laughed and kissed once more, but it was softer this time. It showed just how much Madison loved Zoe and just how much Zoe loved Madison in return. Once news of their engagement spread to the brunette's family, they were all disappointed at first that it wasn't James who she was making her life partner, but they altered their opinion when they met the petite blonde, instantly doting on her and welcoming her into the family with open arms. Once James heard wind of the engagement, he congratulated both of them and promised to help them out one day if they ever decided to become mothers. They were laying in the bed of the home that they had rented previously that was now their own, holding each other close, when Zoe broke the comfortable silence, asking the one question they had both been mulling over since getting engaged.
"What comes next?" She felt the blonde shift next to her so that she was facing her and it wasn't hard to see the worry lines that were forming in her smooth forehead.
"Whatever you want." She said finally, pressing a kiss to her soft lips and turning her back so that she was pressed up against her front. Zoe wrapped her arms around her and kissed the side of her head, sighing contently as she heard the soft snores that erupted from her fiance's slightly parted lips. Zoe Benson and Madison Montgomery had met on an airplane 2000 feet in the air, but the love that came after exceeded a far greater height than any other airplane could ever begin to think to reach, it exceeded all expectations and limitations either of the young women had in the past, and only paved the way for the beautiful future they would make together.
