Horrendous Circumstance

Life was a constant struggle. Not only on Earth, but even in the stars. Casey knew this. She knew there were others who'd had it far worse than herself, nothing but a never ending struggle ahead of them all. Simply for survival. And even then your fate is not your own. Claimed by circumstance.

But this... This couldn't be her life...

This wasn't happening...

"She was only slaying her demons. Like I told her to."

It just wasn't possible. Bellamy would never do this to her.

Wells had been so special. So important to Casey that his death, his murder, had extinguished a part of her very being. With his pure presence now gone from this world, she'd felt nothing but the darkness inside growing.

And Bellamy knew. He knew how import Wells had been to her. The often overbearing man becoming her hero.

A hero that was the only thing keeping her together.

"If he's not better by tomorrow.  I'll kill him myself."

But what if he did... He'd known how important Jasper was. And yet, Bellamy Blake had threatened the wounded mans life regardless. Regardless of her.

Casey felt her blood run cold. Mind going as numb as that useless hand of hers. Reason abandoning her when she needed it most. Any Hope's of thought lost to the chaos.

Anger. Disbelief. Denial. Betrayal. All these emotions swarmed inside like hornets. Angry and violent, seeking escape. But the one that seemed to break free and consume everything else. Was Heartbreak.

It'd just come from his own lips. But Casey couldn't accept it. Wouldn't believe it.

Bellamy wouldn't do this to her.

Yet he stood there, tanned skin gleaming in the moons light, looking so handsome , so ashamed. So guilty. And it broke her already crumbling heart.

"Your lying." Casey's voice broke as her small body began to tremble. Frantic gaze searching the mans face in the darkness as she sucked in a desperate breath. "You wouldn't do that to me."

Bellamy found himself unable to answer, the words stuck in his throat. A heavy lump he felt he couldn't swallow. The man had never imagined Charlotte would take his words so literally. But it had been his words.

Slay your demons, kid.

And somehow by horrendous circumstance, it had come to this.

The love of his life standing so close. Yet so out of reach. So lost because of him.

His answering silence only hurting her more as that betrayal and pain shined more clearly in those ocean eyes. The womans hands snaking around the base of the bow slung over her shoulder and squeezing tightly. Until the knuckles were bleached white.

"How could you say that to me!?! Slaying her demons!!! Wells was everything... everything good."

Bellamy wanted to hold her. But resisted the impulse. His palms itching to give the comfort she so obviously needed. He didn't disagree,  there being more to Jaha he himself hadn't taken the time to see. Wells death being a deep wound for this fierce woman, one that hadn't yet healed, and now it had been ripped back open. But Casey deserved a explanation first. And then if she still wanted him, he could pull her close.

"I didn't know. I didn't realize she would kill anyone because of what I said. Especially Jaha." The man would normally be ashamed of how desperate his own voice sounded. But right now he didn't care, he needed Casey to know he never intended this. He needed her to know it wasn't completely Charlotte's fault either. "She's just scared and confused. It wasn't her fault."
