Melting Ice

Chapter 14

Kayla

Once I can no longer scream, I relax and open my stinging eyes. I appear to be in a dark room with a metal floor and wooden walls.

The door unlocks and 3 peacekeepers march in.

"Are you hear to save me? It's about time", I say, crossing my arms.

"No", says the robotic voice, "President Snows plan didn't work on Clove. She was to strong, it will work on you".

"W-what are you talking about? Let me go!", yell in there faces. Using all my strength, I shove them out my way...only to be restrained by two of them. The other holds a long needle, containing a green liquid.

"What the f*ck is that?", I scream and I don't stop. I scream and scream and scream until my throat becomes raw again.

My arm aches terribly but I can't remember why.

"Who are you?", I whisper, "Where is Xander? I want Xander!".

"It was Xander's idea to hurt you, to kill you. Listen to me Kayla, he is a mutt. You mustn't trust him, you must kill him and Clove and Cato". Clove and Cato? They ring a bell in my mind, I'm sure if I saw them I would know them.

"What did they do?", I ask, meaning Cato and Clove.

"They are very bad people. Repeat after me: Xander is a mutt", orders the peacekeeper.

"Xander is...a mutt", I mumble after him.

"I must get rid of Cato and Clove", is the next.

"I must get rid of Cato and Clove".

Two weeks later

Cato

"Clove still hasn't woken up and neither has Kayla", I inform.

"Remind me again how you found Kayla", says Isabelle.

"Well, the peacekeepers said they heard screams on there rounds flying over the forest and the screams were coming from a wooden shed. And inside was Kayla", I explain with a lump in my throat.

"They will wake up, won't they?", she asks.

"We can only hope", I say.

Brianna is with my parents when I go back to the hospital to see Clove. The doctors say she had a panic attack and then hit her head very hard, putting her in a coma. Apparently she can hear people though so I always talk to her...and maybe sing.

"Hello beautiful", I say when I walk in the door. She looks her same, pale and frail. "Please wake up. We all miss you", I cry, "Brianna needs her mum, Isabelle and Cane need there sister, Kayla...she is in a coma, she needs you. Most importantly, I need my beautiful best friend, my girlfriend, my other half. Please baby, please". I rest my head on her barely breathing heart, listening to her faint heart beat makes me whole.

"Cato, may I speak to you", asks a doctor. I nod and follow him into the hallway.

"If Kayla was going to wake up, she would of shown signs by now. I'm afraid we will be turning off her life support machine in 12 hours", informs the doctor and for the first time in months, I am crying.

"Please, you can't!", I beg, "What about Clove?".

"It seems that she will wake some point soon. I'm sorry, the rest of your family and Kayla's have been informed", he say then exits.

Back in Cloves room, I sit down with my head in my hands and cry. Kayla is like a little sister to me, she is my family now. I don't know how, but I'm going to wake her up, somehow.

"Clove, you really need to wake up. Right now! I will do anything...I will sing. Just please, please wake up!", I sob.

Deep in the meadow

Under the willow

A bed of grass

A soft green pillow

Lay down your head

And close your eyes

And when they open

The sun will rise

I can't remember the second verse, so I stop there.

"Please Clove, we all need you so so much! Everybody needs someone that loves them and I love you, I can't lose you. You make me complete".

Then it hits me! Everybody needs somebody and Kayla's somebody is Xander! I quickly kiss Clove before I leave.

"Don't...leave", cries a soft voice. Clove...

"Oh my god Clove!", I cry, "Oh my god". The tears flood out of me again as she smiles with both her lips and eyes.

"I'm okay...I'm okay", she says.

"I know that know", time is running out for Kayla, "I have to go but I will be back".

"Why?", she asks.

"I just...have too".
