Next, I wait and I wait and I wait until I cannot control myself anymore. The doctors don't seem to take any notice when I make my way back down the dark corridors of the hovercraft and back into the room where we first were. Clove is in there, on her own, sat up against the wall with her head dropped to one side. My first instinct is to run over and try to wake her.
"Clove", I hiss as I rock her shoulders until she wakes.
"What?", she mumbles, but it was more of a hiss.
"We need to talk", I tell her quietly. Then I spill everything; how this was all a set up. Clove was supposed to go to Canada but, as soon as the remains of the Capitol rebels saw this, they took there chance to kill her. The Hunger Games weren't real, that was all a big lie and she was supposed to be killed "mysteriously" tonight during the interview. However, Plurtarch found out about this and told us all back in 2 in an instance. Then, he was killed.
"Why did you keep texting me?", she asks.
"I knew I couldn't tell you anything because these people are and were capable of anything, including hacking into your phone", I explain. Continuing with the story, I tell her about how as soon as we found out about the killing plan, we deciding to go straight in and get Clove. The whole- gun to her head- thing was planned and acting out. 1. For the dramatic effect and 2. If anyone walked in on us, they would think we were killing her.
"And that's how you ended up here", I finish.
"The box I was enclosed in?".
"Was not my idea. Now-".
"There's more?", she moans.
"Uh, yeah", I stutter slightly.
"How bad?".
"Just listen", I nudge closer to her, "Brianna isn't our child", I breath out deeply.
"What are you talking about?".
"She's from the Capitol. A spy".
"How?".
"When you were...pregnant with her...somehow you were injected or you ate something from the Capitol", she nods, "The reason she was so intelligent, so brave was because the Capitol made her like that. They make what could of been a perfecting normal baby into a spy. And she somehow contacted the Capitol using telepathy and told them your strengths, your weaknesses...everything". Finally, I look at Clove. She isn't crying.
"Now what?", she asks as if it isn't a big deal at all.
"Well...I don't know", I admit.
After some silence, she asks, "Where is Brianna".
"Gone. We don't know where. But she is gone", I manage to say.
"Do we ever have to fight again?".
"Only against the odds. They never really have been in our favour, have they?". Night takes over as we drift off into a dark sleep of grief. All this time, I have promised to never let her go and I have failed. Failed as a human being. That's when I realised that I need to find a way to make my love for Clove official, prove to her that I'm not like the others.
