The rain pours down on us as we await the moment when I have to let go. Only Cato and Kayla came to say goodbye, everyone is either working or has plans. Kayla stands, arms crossed, in her training outfit, her hair in two braids either side; each with a red ribbon at the bottom.
"Hey", I say as she begins to cry, "You know I'm coming back, I promise. And I haven't ever broken them yet, have I?". She shakes her tearful head. "I promise I'm coming back, I promise". I don't let myself cry...yet. I take a deep breath and let go of Kayla, straighten out my jeans and jumper, and go to Cato. I bury my face I'm his jumper, it smells just like him. Sometimes, at night, I would wear his clothes just for the pure fun of it. Plus, apparently, it's cute according to him. We don't speak, our breaths almost silent, our hearts beat at the same time as if they were one.
"I love you", I say softy into his jumper, breathing in his cologne.
"I love you more", he assures me, holding me tighter in his strong arms.
"Don't let go, just yet". The rain doesn't bother me, I just want to to held by him.
"That was my plan", then we break apart, "I got you something". Cato reaches into the pocket of his jeans and pulls out a small, silver box with a diamond at the top. He touches my hand gently, setting off the swarm of butterflies. I look at my wrist, a sterling silver bracelet sits there. "So where ever you go, I'm always with you".
"Clato", I say gently, the tears forming again, "I thought it was destroyed".
"Plurtarch has he ways...", he jokes. It's the same bracelet, the one I got three years ago. It even has the small scratch from when Cato fixed it the first time.
"We are forever".
"And always". His lips taste salty, as if he'd been crying. But who cares?
I don't want to break apart, the tears fall from my eyes. I feel my tears run down my face, joining the kiss.
"Shh baby", he comforts holding me close, "I will see you really soon".
"It's months until we can see each other again", I complain. Luckily, we can still text for the next few weeks during training.
"I promise I will see you soon beautiful", he says again. What? He knows he isn't aloud to come with me! What is he on about?
"Miss Kentwell...", calls Plurtach from the hovercraft, "We must be leaving".
"I love you Cato", I tell him once more.
"I love you more Clove".
"Not possible".
"Oh, very possible Clovers".
The journey was tedious; full of information and things I could care less about. Tonight, I have to do an interview with Caesar, then again in a few weeks.
"This is going to be a touch eight months", Plurtarch continues. Eight months? How the hell am I going to survive this!
My phone beeps. Once, twice, three times.
Cato: I miss you to much already x x
Even if you can't reply, I'm still gonna text you x x
I feel like such a loner right now Clove! Love you x xI miss stupidly at him, as if he can see me. As if I could just reach over and grab his hand...
