"He was engaged at one point in time," Marissa explained. "to a girl he had met in high school senior year. Long story short, he loved her and she loved his power. His father and I saw it, and when Marcus didn't believe us, Robert took care of it. We practically broke our own son's heart on our own," she said sadly.

"What do you want me to do?" I asked. "He doesn't talk to me, and when he does, he always ends up turning into an asshole."

Marissa put her hand in my knee, "Please, you have to understand. Marcus was so hurt from what happened with Leila that he completely turned in on himself. Normally he's okay to be around, and then when you get too close to his true feelings, he turns."

"I still don't understand how I'm supposed to help. These past two weeks we've communicated in glares and angry passings."

"That's why it has to be you. Roseilin, you've gotten so close to what he truly feels that he can't even trust himself to talk to you. He glared at you because he's angry at himself for feeling. He has strong feelings for you," she said. I snorted. "He broke into the Newman's house to save you. He went against his father's word, who he never disobeys, and captured instead of killed you. He let you bring your own clothes-,"

"- so that he didn't have to buy me more," I finished for her.

"No, so that you had something from home when he knew you weren't going to get a chance to see it for a while. When you get here, he checked in on you so many times." I thought back to when I woke up and Luis said he'd only been gone an hour. Realization slowly sunk in. "When you were sobbing, he sat outside your door for hours before you finally let him in. I wouldn't say it's love yet, but he has feelings."

I sat there, the information sitting in front of me and I knew it was all true, but I couldn't believe it.

"Please, Roseilin, you're my last chance to make up for what we had to do to him with Leila. I'm just asking you to try and break him out of this shell he's put himself in. I'm not asking you to fall in love with him, or even get in a relationship with my son. I'm asking for you to help him."

Slowly, I nodded my head. I couldn't imagine living in a world where the love of my life only wanted my power, and then having my father make it as a lesson to me. His father wasn't mad at him for being in love, he was mad that it blinded him.

"I'll try," I said. Marissa trapped me in the biggest hug she'd ever given me.

"Thank you so much, so so so much. He's in the library on your floor right now," I looked at her.

"You want me to go now?"

"Why wait?" she asked. I swallowed, laughing a bit under my breath as I looked at the hope behind her eyes. "It's not going to be easy, Roseilin. He's shut himself off for a year and a half now."

"I know," I said, getting up and walking to the door. "I can't promise anything, but I can promise I won't give up if there's still hope," I told her. She smiled and nodded her understanding, and I left her room.

I couldn't believe how nervous I was as I walked down the stairs and reached the third floor. The library was all the way on the end, and when I reached the door, I could see him sitting in the corner reading.

"Whatcha reading," I asked as I walked in. He slammed the book shut and stood up, hiding it behind his back. I turned my head sideways at him, walking closer.

"Nothing," he said.

"What is it?" I asked, needing to know now. I reached behind him but he turned his body so that I only grabbed thin air. "Marcus, what are you reading and why can I not know?" I asked, trying to be more playful than anything. I saw a resemblance of a smirk on his face as I continually failed to grab the book.
